Volkmann Brothers' 41 Quart Special Wick Mix Soil

I thought that this soil would be the answer to to the ultra rich violet potting soils that are commonly sold. However, none of the violets that I planted in this soil thrived. I had a problem keeping the appropriate amount of moisture in the pots with this soil, as it was either too dry or too wet. I ended up having to move all of my violets back into commercial potting soil before they died. Having said this, the soil looks like a good mix and would probably work very well for outdoor potted plants where watering does not have to be carefully monitored. I expect that this soil mixture was not designed for violets that are grown on window seals in a home, but rather for nursery grown violets and other potted plants grown in a greenhouse.

I am so pleased to find this soil available somewhere. I have always had great results using this for african violets and streptocarpus and other gesneriads.

I've used this soil for over 40 years and it's the best for all African violets and Gesneriad species. Unfortunately all the sources I've used in the past have dried up and it is no longer available. If someone has a source, please share it!

I have used the Volkmann Brothers' African violet wick mix for years. It is an excellent product and my African violets and crypthanthus bromeliads love it. Shipping through Amazon is an excellent idea!

Excellent! Prefer not to use anything else after finding this product. Especially good for wickwatering.
