This book, the tools, the APTuner app on my Iphone, and a few You Tube videos gave me the confidence to go ahead. You can too!
This is a great place to start if you are considering tuning your own piano. This provides a good foundation, including attitude, piano repairs, piano parts drawings, music theory, etc. Its written many years ago. I'd couple this purchase with the following however: If you have an IPhoneor even a computer, get the IPhone app: APTuner for about $5.00. You won't need an expensive $40 meter like I purchased if you do that.I got my tool kit on amazon ...the #1 Rated Piano Tuning Kit by Miriam Song for about $35. Its "Good Enough" for the non-professional. The two things you need the most are the big handle to adjust the strings, and the little rubber sound dampers when you work on the strings that come in bunches. The other thing I recommend is to watch several videos on You Tube describing how to tune your own piano. From watching a number of these, it takes away the jitters and you just plunge in. Learning to figure out which string to attach your device to, and how to adjust the tone up or down to find the perfect match of "Zero" on Octove C3 is quite the challenge...but once you get the hang of it, the rest of the job is fairlyeasy, if you are patient and willing to put in the time. Good luck and know that you'll appreciate your well tuned instrument much more after you've learned to keep it in tune yourself. A one time investment in tools and training will more than pay off with musical pleasure down the road.Be intrepid. It isn't brain surgery!

Not as represented
Not as represented. Written in 1907. Where the information may still be valid the writing style is out of date and very wordy. There are NO pictures or diagrams. Not even the picture shown in the advertisement. It does not look like what is shown. It looks like a Xerox copy of a type written manuscript. The author assumes only men would ever learn to tune a piano and makes references to documents that are out of publication, but are required reading before you can proceed. Although Google searches can fill in for it.

Kindle edition is worthless with no images
Unfortunately the Kindle edition has no images / diagrams / pictures whatever which makes the book a waste of time. Had the images in the book been translated to the Kindle view it might have been ok. Without these the point references are meaningless to someone who is a novice as I, myself, am.If it had the images in it, it might have been of some worth. I guess I won't know.

1907 95 p typewritten version of larger old Dover book - zero stars
Zero Stars. Not sent the book advertised - What came was a typewritten 95 page version of the 224p dover book from another publisher. All illustrations had been removed, though references were still in the text. This is a fraudulent advertisement. And even if you get the real book, this is a 1907 book, NOT a 1975 book as listed. So unless you want to know how to tune a 19th century piano in the methods of the time, this book is worthless.

Probably not what you are looking for...
If you are looking for a book to learn how to tune a piano this is probably not what you are looking for. This appears to be a reprint of an old book from 1907. This book is full of archaic references, no drawings or diagrams and is not helping me learn how to tune a piano. I take responsibility for not checking out the book in more detail before purchasing it. This is a book for someone who want to collect reprints of old books that are now mostly irrelevant. Do not waste your money unless you are a book collector.

Read the book. For more advanced tuner wannabes; ...
Read the book. For more advanced tuner wannabes; has a lot of theory. I eventually downloaded a free app on my ipad and used it to calculate the tuning solution. But this book will help instruct you how to make the adjustments to actually physically tune your piano.

Some things never change
I have been a professional piano technician for 25 years. I enjoyed reading this book, written about 1907. I am doing some research for a novel that I'm writing that includes a character who becomes a piano technician around 1935-40, and wanted to read what information he might have had access to while learning his new trade. Interestingly enough, things haven't changed a great deal in the last 100 years, since pianos designs have not radically changed. Our tuning methods have changed, of course (because of electronic tuning devices) and some names of parts have changed, but many things have remained the same. It was an interesting (and occasionally amusing) book.

A free book that is unbelievably technical
I downloaded this free book from Amazon with the expectation that it would offer some practical methods for do-it-yourself piano tuning. The title, "A simple and accurate method for amateurs," led me to believe it would touch on the way use the tuning mutes and other equipment. I did not expect to encounter page after page of lists of frequencies of the various notes of a piano and endless discourse on the "theories" of tuning. But that's what I got. Maybe the original edition (not the Kindle edition) is more helpful, since the kindle edition has stripped the book of all illustrations. I would suggest the book called "Piano repairing and tuning" (I THINK that's the name). That one allowed me to tweak my baby grand between professional tunings and was much more helpful.

Very detailed but key information missing
This is a reprint in paperback of a book first written and published in1907. It was a reasonable price and the book is full of detail and aimed at the amateur who wishes to self-tune their own instrument. That, in my opinion, would have gained it 5 stars. However, whilst the descriptions and keys to the original diagrams are included with descriptions of the working parts of upright and grand pianos, the editors decided to omit the diagrams from this edition. Why? That was a crazy decision and makes understanding so much more difficult. Visual aids are so important. This is the only reason for my 3-star rating.

Usefull book, but methods a bit old (1907)
Pretty good for beginners, to understand working's of a piano. Bit old, written in 1907, new print but not updated.Pictures / repair ideas are poor, TUNING FORK era FOR TUNEUP.Modern electronic or Android Apps replace most of this book. I removed "Action" unit & tuned by plucking strings with Android App showing exact key tuning to adjust to.

Out of copyright, can download a better version with full text and diagrams for free
This is a printout of text that can be legally downloaded for free. It does not include diagrams, which are essential for the understanding of the text, so there is really no point in buying this product. I'm tempted to include a link to Project Gutenberg but I'm not sure of Amazon's policy regarding links.

Old fashioned piano tuning for old pianos.
Hampered by the lack of illustrations but a good insight in the old-fashioned art and theory of tuning a piano. Repairs are mentioned again not illustrated enough. Overhead damper pianos not done at all.
