Very pleased with this purchase. I tested the embosser on some typical copier paper (20#) and could hear the engraving punching through the paper even when I wasn't pressing it very hard. The "punched effect" was confirmed when I held the paper up against the light. I found the paper seemed to be protected when sandwiched between some soft tissue papers. I could then press down fairly hard to get a good impression.

I wanted to love this embosser. I really, really, REALLY did. However - this doesn't suit my needs at all. When trying to emboss, you're supposed to squeeze the handle until you hear it "click," then release. Okay, I do that, and instead of embossing my logo, it cuts about 1/3 of it out! The embossing is far, far too aggressive to use on regular paper. I tried using it on card stock, and the impression doesn't take all the way around (and you never hear a "click" no matter how hard you squeeze). I tried embossing on linen paper, and it cuts out the logo even worse than on plain paper. If you try to squeeze the handle more gently (i.e., not hearing a "click"), then you don't get a full impression.Even the sample of your embossed logo they do for you that's included in the case shows the paper was literally punched through in several areas, yet Quality Control thought it would be okay to go ahead and send it out, anyway. I'm sorry, but no, this isn't supposed to be a paper PUNCH! What a shame, as I was looking forward to using this on some new letterhead for my interior design business. As it stands, there's no way on earth I'll be using it on anything business-related, which renders the entire device useless since it's my company logo.Back to the drawing board, trying to find a better option...

I was looking for something to replace my use of address labels, as I am paper conscious and had recently switched to using 100% post consumer recycled envelopes. As I searched Amazon’s site, Amazon recommended to me an embosser. What a fantastic and classy idea! I chose the Shiny embosser for its high quality appearance and ease of ordering (template,) to have my and my spouse’s initials and address placed in an elegant design. This company also allows for a custom design (using any font, etc.) My embosser arrived in a nice case along with detailed instructions. It has a nice weight to it, a pristine metallic finish, and the plate looks like alabaster but gives a remembrance of old wax seals in its elegance. It seems a special touch when addressing an envelope and nicer than using the best address labels since there is no paper or even ink involved in placing a return address on an envelope with this method. This embosser will always last. No more reordering labels. I feel good about it as I am using less paper as a result, yet my envelopes still look gorgeous.

I was a little nervous to order this after reading some of the complaints, but I am glad I went ahead with the purchase because I have ZERO negative to say about this product. It arrived several days ahead of schedule, which was nice. It does the job perfectly, and yes, it does take trial and error to gauge the amount of pressure to use on different types and thicknesses of paper. Yes, it can punch through thin/cheap paper, but that is to be expected. I ordered one of these from a specialty catalog years ago for at least double the price, and this one is every bit as good. I've used it on all of my greeting cards and correspondence and it looks great and I get many compliments. The biggest positive of the featured design, in my opinion, is that you can use 2 people's first initials without dealing with whose last name you want to use. My friend just now saw it in use and now she wants to order one for herself. That's why I'm here - to get her the link - and thought I'd write a review, too!

The sample of the embossed seal that accompanied my order was a clear impression. However, when I tried to get the impression on the gold seals for invitations the hand held gadget didn’t work well. I requested a stronger apparatus but got no response from the manufacturer.

This embosser is so cool! It makes a colorless impression on paper and has many practical uses. I love pretty lettering on Christmas cards and usually hand write them. But this adds a certain classiness to an envelope without pulling from the personal touch. I’ve embossed front pages of all my books too.I haven’t tried anything very thick, but an envelope impresses with no problem. It took me a minute to figure out how to put the embossing plate in the handle, but when I realized the slots on the plate line up with the holder it was easy. I put my husband's and my name at the top and shortened our address for the bottom half, so it's a smaller font than pictured. My only problem is the top half right side is not very crisp or clear (unfortunately it's the part that's my name and our last name). I emailed the company, they had me take pix and sent back instructions on how to properly install the pad, but I've done it right (it clicks right in, so that's not the problem). They were quick to respond, but I'm pretty sure that part of the impression isn't as deep. It's still ok for normal use, I was just hoping to use for wedding invitations. Kind of a bummer. Didn't really get the help I needed from their support staff, though they did respond to a couple of emails.

I like this embosser and for the price its a nice way to customize my stationery without spending a lot or requiring additional material purchases. I recommend teading the instructions fully and ubdeestand its only meant for #24 paper and not heavy craft paper. I ordered it online with customized information that was asked and it arrived in 3 business days. It required a little practice so dont use your good paper until its tested a bit (round one is harder to align). But other than the very small font type (that becomes hard to read if you put too many characters on one line) you get exactly what you entered in and delivered quickly. Note: I wish they included how ti care for, clean or maintain to keep the die sharp.
