Winter Story (Brambly Hedge)

Granddaughter and I LOVE the Brambly Hedge series. The stories are the simple tales of a happy community of adorable mice, with names that make you chuckle, living in the English hedgerows. They are sweet and loving stories beloved by children and grandparents alike. But the true treasure of these books is in the drawings. We sit and pour over each and every detail and they are SO detailed. They transport you to a world everyone would love to be part of. What a wonderful imagination this author/illustrator had. I know that every so often we will continue to pull these stories out and enjoy them all over again.

I have all of Jill Barklem's books and Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall are my utmost favorite. These books are outstandingly beautiful and knowing that I can at least have my favorite 4 with me on my Kindle on my ipad, made me very, very happy! Her books just make you all warm and cuddly inside and really bring out the wonder of a child out from inside of you. I was also delighted to see that the color and print was the same as the original paper books which made the Kindle books just as great, and there were no middle seams to contend with.I am a woman, 65 years young, and am very grateful for Jill Barklem's wonderful imagination and her lovely books, Amazon, and Kindle for allowing me to continue to forever enjoy the wonder of the lives, homes, families and adventures of these tiny mice creatures! I ordered this book after seeing it referenced in a read aloud lesson plan. I used it with 2nd grade students. The kids enjoyed the book and had never heard it before (always a plus). The pictures were wonderfully illustrated. I gave it 4 stars because I wish the book was a little bigger.

I have been looking for this book in bookstores for quite some time and then I thought to search Amazon. I am so happy to have found it, the Brambly Hedge stores a cute and my grandchildren love them and this title completes my set.

This is a joyful little story about a Winter storm arriving at Brambley Hedge. The mice make the best of it, with a huge Winter Ball. It is very festive, with the intense, detailed artwork and all the interesting characters. Although the publishers should have printed it larger to enable the viewers examination, it still keeps the interest of a 3-4 year old and older...even adults:)

This is a lovely little story. The book itself is tiny, which makes reading it aloud to my children (3 of them) a little bit difficult. But the story is cute and cozy.

These books by Jill Barklem are priceless, the illustrations are exquisite. Also have The Summer Story, The Autumn Story and Poppy's Babies. Do not know of any child that would not love these books, but I am in my eighties and making up for a childhood deprived of books. I can look at them many many times and delight in the wonder of these little mice families. Am sure that children would be delighted to receive them as gifts and treasure them forever.

I bought all four Brambly Hedge 'seasons' for my granddaughters aged 4 and 5. Lovely bedtime stories and good for expanding vocabulary

Loved it as a child, and now as an adult. Illustrations and words are beautiful and reminiscent of a gentler time.

Self gift

All the Brambly Hedge books are little masterpieces of illustration. My children loved them all through childhood, and I am now buying them for the next generation, they are timeless. This is a particular favourite, the wintry illustrations of the Snow Ball and the amazingly detailed pictures of the store, and the cosy kitchen; beautifully done. A book for parents as well as children!
