R&M International Apple Peeler Machine with Suction Mount, Peels, Cores and Slices

I rarely write reviews, but I had to sign in to talk about this one.Every year, I am in charge of making the apple kugel for the family Passover Seder. I'm a pretty good baker, so I am THE ONE, the one who is entrusted with this most important dish, that over 40 separate people will eat over two nights, and I will be judged by these people. Those of you who are tasked with making the turkey at Thanksgiving and various occasions will understand the pressure I am under.Heretofore, I have been peeling my apples by hand - not with the hand peeler, which really only works on carrots and the occasional potato - but with a paring knife, peeling each organic Granny Smith by hand and then coring and slicing it into oddly-shaped pieces. I did this about 30ish times to make between 4 and 5 kugels every year for many, many years. This year, I decided to see how smart people do it.I read a crazy amount of reviews for a lot of different apple slicers here on Amazon, and from what I can tell, most of the contraptions do a pretty good job. But this one stood out, mainly because of one review from an engineer (I'll try to look up his name and enter it here) who liked it for its construction and adjustability.I bought a bunch of Granny Smith apples that were all about the same size. I took it out of the box and attached the handle (you need a little screwdriver or knife to screw in the little hank crank, which is super easy, with no other assembly required), gave it a little clean and immediately put it to work, without making any adjustments to the peeler, corer or slicer.One thing to know is that there are sharp parts, so be careful! The second thing to know is that is is COMPLETELY AWESOME. It peeled, coed and sliced an apple in about 10 seconds. It used to take me about 3 minutes per apple to do this.I have attached a photo of the three kugels I made. it's kinda like a cake, and kinda like a pudding, with apples, cinnamon and sugar. All the apple slices are the same thickness, which is really nice.I can't attest to how this thing will hold up over time, but I can say that for the money this is one of the best kitchen gadgets I have ever bought. I may only use it a few times a year, but, oh my stars, it shaved about an hour off my baking time today, that's huge.I plan on buying a few more for various family members as gifts.

I consume at least three apples each and every day. And I make killer apple pies. Anyway, for various reasons, I decided I wanted an Apple Peeler/Corer/Slicer. I shopped and shopped. Units with moderately good reviews ran $20 and up. And none of the units seemed to have universally good reviews. So, I decided to go with the least expensive unit and I absolutely love it. In the one week of ownership I have used it to make two 10" deep dish apple pies and several apple snacks.Out of the box, it was missing the wooden handle and screw. I found R&M Industries on the web, emailed them, and they quickly sent me the missing parts. They did not ask for my Amazon receipt or any proof of purchase. They appear to be one of many distributors of kitchen gadgets manufactured heaven knows where. Anyway, they seem to provide great customer service even though you're not actually purchasing items directly from them.One concern I had for any of these little machines was getting it "dialed-in" to work correctly. I decided to try it the first time without making any adjustments. It worked perfectly. I then tried a smaller apple--worked perfectly. Then an odd shaped, larger apple--worked perfectly. I have since used it for many shapes and sizes of apples, and it works perfectly each and every time. And it is amazing how quickly you can peel/slice/core an apple with this tool. I can easily do six apples in the time it takes me to do one using conventional methods. And this device produces uniform slices of exactly the same thickness. Win!Win!Win!The slicing thickness as set from the factory, which I assume is adjustable (not sure how), is perfect for pies. The peeler rides on a spring-loaded arm so it follows the contour and diameter of the apple perfectly and automatically. I have not tried to make any adjustments, and prefer not to. I have not read the instructions, but frankly, just hope the thing never goes out of adjustment.The clamping mechanism works fine on our laminate counter top. I spread a little water on the surface before setting the unit down, then simply turn the handle to clamp. Works great!Suffice it to say, that I could not be happier with this product. I would have gladly paid top dollar given its performance, but given the much lower than average purchase price, I am positively elated! If you're in the neighborhood, stop by for pie!!!

This was a gift for my daughter. It arrived at her house within two days of the order as promised. She absolutely loves this product. She has two large apple trees and this product allows her to peel, cut and core in one quick and easy step.

Love this. It made making pies fun. Quick and easy. It says it isn't good with soft/bruised apples and it is right. I highly recommend this product.
