Saved me some money
Okay we have a boat with a Volvo Penta engine. We are pretty much novices at DYI but at least we want to be able to do some maintenance and basic diagnostics before we start forking over the large bucks. We bought the manual based on the reviews and found that book is very detailed and provides good instructions and diagrams so even a novice can feel confident. We went through the troubleshooting steps for our trim and were able to diagnose and correct the problems with new fuses and new relays. I think this guide has already saved us some money.I found it to be quite helpful and it does walk you through a process of elimination so you can determine the issue then assess your skill level and determine if you want to try it or call a professional. I found this very useful and helpful and would recommend it if you are even thinking of doing the work yourself. I am extremely pleased with this and would recommend it highly if you wan to make the leap into DIY repairs.

Good but not great
The manual is pretty comprehensive but lacks details in some areas. Could use more photos or illustrations. Some fairly complex processes are described in a few sentences, which is not adequate. Overall, a good resource that could be better.

Great Book
Great detailed shop manual for those marine do it your selfers out there - paid for itself a couple times over just with a couple of procedures I have used it for already.

Works well enough for maintenance and some repairs.
This manual does have the information you need in it, at least it did for me, but it's tough to find sometimes. It's organization and layout is not intuitive at all. Once you use it enough you do get through it though. Like all of these kinds of aftermarket one size fits many repair manuals, it is really no substitute for the factory manuals, as it lacks specific details and diagrams for your specific drive, but may have similar sort of generic illustrations. If you are thinking of repairing a lot of drives, or really going to get into and tear your drive to bits, I suggest sucking it up and buying the factory manuals even though they are pretty pricy. If you're like me and just want to do routine maintenance and occasional repairs, this works well enough for the money.
