With LADY and JACK JONES SINGS a great singer came into his own.
Jack Jones always had a beautiful voice and a handsome face. On some of his early efforts for KAPP Records he is indistinguishable from Vic Damone, John Gary or any one of the other boy singers. Pretty but nothing too deep. On these two albums from 1967, his last for KAPP before his great mostly self produced albums for RCA, Jack is in fine form, personalising each song with his supple and flexible voice, using his range to experiement. Arrangements by RALPH CARMICHAEL and MARTY PAICH are outstanding; elaborate puzzles around the song or the melody broken and reassembled into complex, tiny symphonies. They are not gruesome or syrupy but interesting embellishment that clearly encouraged Jack to reach out of his father's shadow and develop beyond the family business.1967 was a rough time for most non-rock singers. Even Sarah Vaughan had just begun a five year period without any recording contract. That JACK JONES would keep pushing despite getting no respect, despite being thought hopelessly square, push on to make so many works of great beauty is a gift to us now. These two albums have been out of print for decades. I encourage you to buy this pressing from Zone Records Ltd. as soon as you can. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do.

Jack Jones Sings is the better Album
These are both among Jack Jones' best work and it's a shame it took so long to get them on CD. Jack was in his prime and the arrangements were strong. "Jack Jones Sings" is actually the better album, but "Lady" was the bigger seller because it has more "hit songs", hence the emphasis on "Lady" in the marketing of this product. Listen to "Free Again" or "A Day in the Life of a Fool" or "Watch What Happens" or especially "I Don't Care Much" (the song that captures the whole point of the Broadway show "Cabaret") and you'll hear Jack sing the way a singer should sing. You won't hear many singers who could do a credible job on these songs, especially among the currently popular ones.

Lady and Jack Jones Sings say it all for you!
Jack Jones just did it in these albums. You can feel his soul and yours in "Free Again", "Brother, Where Are You", "If You Go Away","And We Were Lovers", "Girl Talk" was sexy, "A Day In The Life Of A Fool", "Watch What Happens", "The Shining Sea", "The Snows Of Yesteryear". If you want something more up beat there is "A Beautiful Friendship", "Nice 'N' Easy", "It's Easy to Remember", "Somewhere There's Someone" a really catchy tune, "The Face I Love", "I Don't Care Much".You may find that you like ones I did not name. Well, I really love all of them…these are just the ones I will repeat sometimes. You will not go wrong buying this CD!

Not Only a Great Singer but The Ultimate Handsome Charming Man
His "Lady" is one of my favorites of all his hits. Used to be his biggest fan till I learned about the gay men's hit list for destroying heterosexual women. If I am wrong, I am sorry. But someone has to say something.

Absolutely love it!
Absolutely love it!! I was so happy to find the albums I listened to in the sixties in CD format.. His voice is so beautiful. I was blown away to listen to his music again after 50 years And, my husband, a singer and entertainer himself, quite enjoys Jack Jones at breakfast on Sunday morning. says he is way underrated

Jack Jones is tops!
I have been waiting for this record to be made into a cd for years! No one sings "Once Upon a Time" better than Jack Jones! The theme from the 'Sand Pebbles' is also very beautiful. "If You Go Away" is haunting, too. "Nice and Easy" is terrific, also. A beautiful cd from a beautiful man!

A superb reissue with great sound from the tech end
A superb reissue with great sound from the tech end, and above all the superb singing pipes of Jack Jones in his prime. A must for any fan of traditional pop.

Easy Listening
Another great voice from the 60's and the song choices that brought back the nostalgia and romance of times gone by.

An Underated Singer
Kapp always knew how to produce for and press quality vinyl(check out any of The Searchers LPs).It did its job supurbly with regards to bringing out Jack Jones' deep-leveled and expressive voice.I bought this for his version of "Once Upon A Time" which is right up there with Bobby Darins' definitive version. The cd sounds wonderful, full and textured with regards to the vocals and instruments.

Double Album CD
If you like Jack Jones singing in the 1960s, this is a great buy. The recordings are a very good quality, thanks to the record label. Jack Jones sings some strong songs, before he started to record the more contemporary material of the 1970s. On these albums, he is more of a traditional balladeer/band singer.

Together again (for the firs time!)
Both of these albums have shining tracks. Overall JACK JONES SINGS puts Jack in his element, while LADY which has about half great tracks has Jack "pop-ing up" some classics with mixed results. Beautifully remastered from the original tapes, these are well worth owning. Highly recommended.
