Black Licorice Lovers Unite!
It's so difficult to find black licorice gum these days! I was so pleased when I seen that Amazon offered it. A box lasts me a long time. I do wish it was a bit fresher. Perhaps it's changed over the years, b/c when I was a youngster and bought this gum, it was soft/fresh, and the flavor lasted longer. Maybe b/c we are a small force it sits on the shelf longer, or the manufacturer has changed the recipe, it's tougher, and the flavor doesn't last quite as long as I would like, but nonetheless, am happy I was able to find this gum b/c it's my favorite!

Itโs almost tasteless with just a hint of licorice flavor
Less than one star. The package was delayed by a day or two. I was excited when it arrived. However, the gum is stale and brittle. Itโs tough to chew and is almost tasteless with just a hint of licorice flavor. The expiration date on the 12 pack is 2035. This has to be a joke. The gum tastes like itโs from the 1950โs. It belongs in a museum. Donโt believe higher ratings. Donโt waste your money on this. DONโT BUY.

Not like any other gum. Lasts longer chew..love licorice.
Thought to take a star off because it's made in China and the packaging is pretty shabby. It bursts a strong licorice flavor and chews forever... I ball it up and save it to re-chew later as the texture is superior and very unique. The flavor goes down to quite mellow, which I actually prefer and lasts pretty much indefinitely. If you're not freaked out by re-chewing, you get a totally unique experience. I love licorice candies and this satisfies that taste without all the sugar. This was originally made in America and one of the nostalgia series that Beechnut Gum or Wrigley's would re-issue a couple of times a year included with Pepsin, Clove and maybe one other apparently China picked up the patents or rights. Too bad, but still my best ever chew for my peculiar approach and enjoyment.

NOW you know for sure.
This one (1) package, box, contains twenty (20) packs of gum, each individual pack contains five (5) sticks of gum. This fact was not made apparent in all the sources of all chewing gums I looked at. I have no idea why it is so difficult for suppliers to provide this kind of information. It is one of the simplest, easiest, important data points of product information. WE, the people considering purchasing any product, want to KNOW how many we are purchasing. When I was a kid some 60 years ago, I loved Black Jack, Beemans and Clove chewing gums! All the rest, plain, yuck. As I opened the first package, umm the licorice smell came wafting out. After chewing for about 20 minutes there still lingers the licorice flavor. Interesting that it is made in Morocco?

Brings back a lot of memories
I do not think these are the original Black Jacks but it's better than nothing. The packaging seems smaller, the sticks are brittle, and the flavor doesn't last so long. On the other side of the coin, there was a time long ago when a stick would last an entire 9 inning ball game. The times are sure changing.

Don't buy this gum!!!
In my humble opinion, this is perhaps the worst gum I have ever had. I bought it for my granddaughter, and thought I would try it before giving it to her. I am so glad I did. If you are expecting this gum to taste like the Black Jack of old you will be terribly disappointed. It doesn't even come close. One might expect not to get the original taste and can accept that as long as it come close. However, I can't even describe any flavor that is similar to this trash. Adding insult to injury, the texture is like cardboard that breaks up into small pieces that you have to let soften in your mouth before you can even chew it. It has no resemblance to chewing gum, and seems like you are chewing on a pencil eraser. I couldn't chew it for more than 20 seconds because it was making me gag. Best of luck if you done heed my warning.

Sometimes hard, sometimes soft, tastes OK either way
All of the boxes of these I've bought were different. Hard to the point the gum cracked, pretty hard, and like the latest box VERY soft. Even if it's hard and cracks it still tastes the same after a few seconds. I suppose you might be able to call the really hard stuff that cracks up "stale," but I don't think it's bad? The latest box I bought in June 2013 is probably too soft, but after a few seconds it doesn't matter. There's really nothing else like this gum.
