Baby Wooden Expanding Fence Door Protection

I own about 5 of these fences now. There is nothing out there that competes with this. You have to know what you are buying. I think this is the problem for many people. I normally don't write reviews, but since there were a number of negative reviews out there I felt it was important to comment on it.Pros:- Very inexpensive- Real Wood- Folds down very small -- this is huge for me. I don't want these large fences to always be out or have to find a large enough area for them. These fold away and are hardly noticeable.- It works perfect to keep my dogs out of different areas of the house when I don't want them there. It is far more of a visual barrier than something they could jump against.Cons:- It is flimsy, but this can go to your advantage at times since you can slightly bend this when open.- The wood isn't nicely sanded or finished to anywhere near furniture level -- it is under $20 though. I didn't expect Ethan Allen.- It will fall apart over time. With this said, it is cheap to pick up a new one. I have one that gets almost daily use of folding and unfolding. I have had it for a couple of years without a problem. Normally, my biggest problem is when someone falls on it while trying to step over it (it is too high for that).In conclusion, there isn't a competitor this product. I would spend quite a bit more of there was a higher quality version. In the end though, if you are looking for something foldable and free standing. This is your one choice and it is very inexpensive. I rated it based upon the price that I paid and filling the function that I need.

I agree with a previous review which listed similar points:1) it stands by it self anywhere with no mounting hardware on walls/stair post2) adjusts for different size openings3) rough finished wood, but matches a medium oak stair rail4) keeps my 20 lb dog out of the areas where he is not permitted5) light weight, folds and stores upright6) bought 2.....can be used side by side as a room separatorThat being said it fulfills my need perfectly, but it may not as suitable for everyone. Wood smells like cedar? It is relatively flimsy, and I would not trust it to remain stable under the weight of a charging large animal or an infant. Its main method of operation is to alert the animal that the fence/obstacle places the area off limits, more through intimidation rather than being an impenetrable barrier. Openings were too small for my dog to stick his head through, which is good in my case but that may not be the case with smaller dogs or cats....possibly why the OUTER carton label states:" KEEP THIS ITEM AWAY FROM CHILDREN AND SMALL PETS".Although roughly finished, it was solid wood and inexpensive considering the amount of work required to produce a product of this nature.I am giving it 5 stars because it is perfect for my situation.....more so than more expensive, stronger, more permanent pet barriers.

For the price and for what I need, it does the job, but I h ave to use a rod to hold it across the doorway. Fortunately, our dogs are trained well enough to know that this gate is telling them to stay out. As for it being a baby fence, I would not suggest it. It can be knocked over easily and I'm sure a baby would get his or her little fingers pinched in the accordion.

I bought this gate for my mom who is handicapped. When you put it together the holes do not line up so you could not put the screws completely in on one side. One of the pickets busted. It is like paper wood. Also it is not finished and there is splinters all over the wood. The picture is deceiving. It is a piece of junk and sooo poorly made. I sent a message to customer service to return it for a credit. I explained it was for my mom who was handi-capped. It was like 7 days passed the time of their policy to return it and they said absolutely no. I would not buy a thing from this company. Very bad and sad customer service. I threw it out but, Amazon was kind enough to give me a credit. Shame on this company but, 5 stars for Amazon. I will always be a customer of Amazon because they stand by their products they sell. Unfortunately I had to give it 1 star or I would not be able to post this so 1 star for shipping this piece of junk out to me.

This item was a great buy for the cost. It's nothing fancy - but if you need a little gate, it's great. I've had mine for a couple of years now and use it indoors and out. It has held up well outdoors too. Initially I purchased it as a barrier for my chickens and it worked great just to deter them from going into an area of the yard. It is very light weight too, but at the same time can take getting knocked down from wind or an over-zealous dog! Good item.

The gate couldn't be more poorly constructed. It doesn't stay opened and slowly creeps closed. The wood feels like it is made from balsa wood. The gate I received also had mold all over one side as if it had been packaged while wet. The shipping was also ridiculously late. After contacting the company by email and phone I have yet to hear back. Disappointing.**The company contacted me a couple months after this review. They were willing to refund 50% of the purchase price if I removed my review from Amazon. Apparently they realize that their company is lacking and are trying to buy off any unfavorable reviews.

Don't expect too much. The fence is very flimsy. If your expecting to use it for your children I do not recommend it. Extremely light weight. Easy to break, push over, and move. I cannot expand it to its extent with out it retracting by itself. Dosent really offer much 'protection' at all. I guess you get what you pay for.

I like it a lot only wish it was made sturdiar as I dont think it will hold up for long
