Awesome gate!
Perfect gate!!! I have a 4 foot opening between my living room and dining room and was looking for something to keep the dog on one side or the other (he's an active 7 yr old 75 lb husky). This gate was easy to install and is simple, traditional and somewhat brilliant in design. There was no piece that installed into the floor - there is a piece that came attached to the bottom of the middle of the gate - this piece rests on the floor and gives the wide gate support in the middle when it's extended. It's been up for 6 months and I've never pinched a finger or anything else. I can manage to step over it but it's so easy to open and close I usually don't bother to try to go over. My dog is big - he has pushed on the gate but hasn't done any damage and the gate was sturdy enough that he has stopped trying. He did try to go over it the first day it was up. Thankfully - he didn't hurt himself or the gate - despite landing on it. It had to hurt some - he just didn't quite make it over and had to have some help getting his hind legs back on the ground. The gate wasn't phased by his 75 lb self hanging from it. I'm glad I was right there when it happened and glad it wasn't worse than it turned out... The experience was enough for him that he has not ever tried to go over the gate again. He has jumped up to put his paws on the top like he does on the fence outside - the gate is gives a little but is able to take it without any damage. And thankfully - he doesn't do this often. At first the gate was really important so that I could separate the cats who had live here for 10 years from the newly adopted 7 yr old large dog who wanted to chase them. Over time the gate was perfect for the job - the cats were visible but protected from him and gradually he grew accustomed to their existence. We were able to control his access to them and eventually train him to get comfortable and not chase them at all. I had expected to remove the gate once we reached peaceful cohabitation... but it swings out of the way so easily and has proven useful for other occassions when I want to keep the dog contained while a door is open or something - so it remains installed and helpful.

Perfect for the job
I bought this gate in order to keep our cats out of our finished basement area. The opening was 54 inches, and was between a regular wall and the edge of a stairway. This gate worked absolutely perfectly. I didn't even have a stud to go to on the wall portion as the instructions advised to use, so I used dry-wall anchors and the gate works perfectly, even at that distance. The operation of latching/unlatching is easy enough for my 5 and 8-year old boys to use.If you're careful during the installation, you'll have no problems putting this thing up. I did it with no help, though I probably could have used an extra hand for leveling, but I worked it out.The included spacers made it very easy for me to work out the portion that was going to be at the floor molding we have.Don't listen to the bad reviews. If you have an extra wide opening, and you don't want to spend too much... get this gate. I've had it a few weeks and my young boys have been going in and out every day, and it's holding up perfectly. Most importantly my pets are now kept out of that room! It's wood so not necessarily the prettiest gate out there... but that's not what I needed.Enjoy!

Great For Garage Doors
Update!Well after being exposed to the elements for 9 years and having been moved across town it broke! We can’t keep anything nice! Just kidding, I’m back to buy another because it finally gave up the ghost. My only complaint is still that it’s difficult to open and close the clasp. Little fingers are especially at risk if they figure out how to open it at all and adults can never figure it out.Stretched across the garage door to keep the dogs inside while the door is open or puppies in while the door is cracked open to cool the garage. The only drawback is the latch. No one can ever figure out how to open or close it and it gets left open and the dogs figure it out and get out. So long as you know how to operate the latch and make sure you check it once strangers have left it does a great job.

Great value
Very sturdy and both easy to install and to use. It keeps our 2 Shih Tsus where we want them when we are at work. The center leg in the middle of the span keeps it steady and in place. It is 4 inches taller than my previous gate and removed the temptation of my Shih Tsus from trying to jump over it. Highly reccomend both the product and seller.

Works well but....
Very good gate. I would have given it 5 stars but for two issues. Firstly the installation instructions are very poor. There is an instructional video online demonstrating how to install the gate but they show some installing on a table top...try doing it at floor level...a very different scenario! No information on how to actually operate the gate. The second issue is the closure mechanism. It is the most poorly engineered closure I have ever seen. It is next to impossible to operate one handed when opening the gate and requires two to three hands to close the gate, other than that it works.

The foot is a great feature
I am on my second gate I use it outdoors on my deck. It performs as expected and I am pleased. I wish they made this one out of vinyl. I must say 3 years outside in all sorts of weather I am pleased it lasted that long as it is not for that intended use. I keep my dog on the deck and keep animals off my deck. The center foot not found on most gates assures nothing gets under it as it locks the gate in place. I recommend this gate.

Have these all over the house!
I have a total of 4 of these around the house to keep naughty dogs away from trouble. Easy to use, compact and out of the way storing when not using (just swing it away on the hinge). The only, very small complaint is that the top latch is difficult to latch. When fully pressed (it's spring loaded) it opens exactly wide enough to slide into the eye hook. Fully pressing requires super strength and then there's lots of fumbling to get it to latch. I actually hate that part of it.
