what happened to analog?
I,ve been buying Onkyo receivers going on twenty years. I have reviewed every receiver (I own 5 active Onkyo receivers in use presently) and have always given five stars. Except this one. The reason is NONE of the audio connections accept analog input. I didn't expect or want to connect a turntable, but I did expect to be able to connect a cassette deck. Legacy analog inputs including VCR should not be eliminated from from current (new) receivers. What's a baby boomer to do?

HDMI inputs will NOT play on Zone 2.
Buyer beware. Your HDMI inputs will NOT play on Zone 2. I bought specifically to power 5.1 surround in one room and 2 speakers in my workout room. Was looking forward to playing audio from Apple TV and Firestick in my workout room. The worst part is that it took two hours of searching to figure this out after I bought it and had it all setup. This is “feature” is not in any product documentation or in the owners manual. Bait and switch. Thanks Onkyo.

power circuit died twice
I bought this as a simple home theater and stereo receiver. Sound quality and performance is just fine. After two weeks the power supply died. I asked Amazon to return it and they requested I try to have their authorized center repair it first. I sent it and three weeks later got it back. I just hooked it up last week and it died again today. Terribly dissapointed and will not buy another Onkyo product.

Great value unit that's easy to use
It works beautifully. One thing that I definitely recommend, is this unit has the ARC (audio return channel). If you have a newer TV, follow it's instructions on setting up ARC with this unit. It allows you to only have one HDMI cord going to the TV, and it will automatically adjust volume and turn on/off WITH the TV (I love modern technology)! As far as sound quality goes, I have a 5.1 system in my living room and a 2 speaker system on my patio, and this powers both. Playing different sources in each zone isn't exactly straightforward, however, so make sure that your kids don't start blasting video game sounds outside.

Excellent Surround Sound Receiver
I love the guided setup of this great receiver. After you have completed the setup procedure, you will probably want to do it over again just to experience the excellent quality of the product you've just gotten. Testing the surround sound during setup is wonderful. It allows you to fully experience the the high quality of your speakers. I'm using Bose surround speakers with the Bose woofer, which routes all the speakers through the woofer, and leaves you with breathless sound quality. The Onkyo receiver delivers the full sound in all its glory. It's just too bad the human ear can't discern all the sound this system puts out. I wasn't disappointed, and I doubt you will be either.

This machine was highly recommended
This machine was highly recommended by the cable company. But the connections in back after 2 months of actual use have come loose and now the picture comes and goes. Cable company has replaced the line 3 times so not the cable. Very disappointed in the quality as this isn't cheap and so many people recommended it. Would like to exchange under the 1 year manufacturer warranty but can't get a hold of anyone. Wish there was a response to this with how I can get it exchanged.

You get what you pay for...
When I opened the box, I looked and picked up the stereo-processor. This thing weighed about 25 to 30lbs. I knew I was in for a ride... and it wasn't going to be pretty...So first off... this receiver puts the c in cheap. I've been setting up receivers since I was 5 yrs old (yes I hooked my dad's McIntosh to my 13 inch tv when I was 12). But this particular Onkyo was the hardest by far. First I had to figure out if the thing even the thing even worked. Took hrs to figure out that the display takes about 30 seconds to boot on screen after clicking the menu button. Then the menu... ohh the menu... well, usually all you have to do is read the instructions... but the instructions were useless and that's an understatement. But after making and fumbling my way with the menu, I figured I was done so I tried to play some sound tests and well there was no sound. After another hr I finally stumbled on Onkyo's optical cable settings but on the remote... not in the menu mind you... then then I finally was able to complete the setup. The Onkyo sound was complementary to the Monoprice speakers I had... which were equally pathetic, but was complementary nonetheless. But back to Onkyo, that set up was terrible. The remote is cheap as well. It weighs about an ounce, I promise. But its performance is admirable. My wife enjoys her Christmas present. So I'm good. But I just wish AV receivers weren't so complicated. This setup was terrible but I'm sure it is better on the upper tier sku. I honestly felt the 30 menu wait was partially the reason they discontinued this line of sku. You can imagine the amount of returns this this receiver had because of that.

Worked fine for first two and a half months.
First let me say that I have owned Onkyo receivers in the past and have been satisfied with their performance. However, the TX-SR 383 sparked and shut down after only two and a half months. I contacted Onkyo and they did respond by giving me an authorized Repair company to send it to for repair. I am awaiting the repair and results.

Worst product and Customer service ever
I bought this receiver a few months ago for my living room that has 5 in-ceiling 50Watts speakers, which in theory should be really for this receiver to handle (it claims 175w/channel). When I set this up, and I set to volume to 80 (or above) after about half an hour, the device would overheat and shut down. I don't use my living room speakers that much, so I said it's ok I'm not gonna go above 75 when I use it. after a few month, if I turn the volume to just 55, it will overheat in like 5 minutes. So, an awful device I say. I called Onkyo support and after chatting (mostly waiting) with someone for like 30 minutes, they told me that I had to ship the item to another province (I live in NL, I had to ship it to Montreal) and call a third party service center to fix it for me (I had to call them and not Onkyo). So for a $200 item, I have to pay over $50 for a shipping and wait a month (maybe more) to fix this item. Awful Awful service and the receiver was not stable at all and Blutooth got disconnected from time to time. Save yourself some time and find a better brand like Denon

Excelente receptor

nice product for the price
I might be behind in recent surround sound technology but I am more than happy with the overall quality as well as the ease of initial setup. Compared to my old vintage surround system, the on-screen setup made things extremely simple. I also thought that the idea of having an included microphone that you place in your main listening seat, and have the system automatically calibrate the speaker volumes was very bright. Possibly the other manufacturers do the same but again, I am a little behind. Only difficulty I had was trying to figure out setting some analog inputs for older composite video equipment (some inputs have choice of HDMI or comp video).

Great product - Awesome Amp for the price
Prompt shipping, great price. Was a great 'solve' for the Netflix 'can no longer stream on your device' message that came up on my old equipment in December, 2019. Have a look - can't ask for a lower priced upgrade... good for a while now... :)

Excellent value for the price.
I like the fact that in 5 years time I can spend the same amount of money for a product and get so many more features. ie. Bluetooth, 7.1 and remote speaker option. The seller also shipped it the next day.
