Excellent Fun!
I can't believe they cancelled this show - makes no sense unless it was just too expensive to produce or whatever. I'm hoping that someone is smart enough to pick it up, market it and produce another season, although it doesn't look like it. Don't miss it, especially if you like the 60s theme.

Beautiful, classy, elegant
Highly regrettable and a huge mistake for ABC to have only given this series one season. Depicting the last era of a bygone elegance (the early 60’s) and the glamour of flying, this series had the class and wit that is missing from the current fare. Shame on ABC.

Pan Am..what a great series!
I originally ordered this because it was on sale and I figured it might be good for a rainy day, it really didn't catch my interest but I grew up in the '60s and always loved going to the airport, so, what the heck?! Was I ever surprised! From the very start, the show kept me wanting to just watch a little bit more each time, until I found myself spending several hours glued to the TV set, not wanting to miss out on what was soon to come. I never would have dreamed it would be such a good show..never!! Set in 1963, the show actually makes you feel like you're there again.. pretty girls, timeless fashions, great acting, action, adventure, the characters almost seem to become like family and I felt as though I traveled the world alongside them as the show progressed. I was truly sad when it ended but I must say that the ending was very appropriate and just fit right in with the rest of the series...a real sleeper as far as good shows and good buys go, I recommend this highly to anyone interested in the theme and the times. If only we could go back in time...sigh..this is probably as close as I'll ever get! A very believable show.

When a career was more than just work -- life at the famous airline "Pan Am"
"Pan Am" is a creative drama about air travel in the 1960s. The women are strivers, often coming from working class backgrounds. Through attention to style, setting priorities, and openness to new relationships they enter the world of the rich and powerful. The four lead stewardesses take different career paths but also maintain their friendships.More generally, the advent of modern air travel with the Boeing 747 meant that continental and international travel become widely available. While expensive compared to modern airline prices the experience was great and the airline staff were well paid (most would agree that stewardesses who meet high standards deserve excellent pay!). Pan Am was a cool one season show. The 1960s were more fully explored in the wildly successful show "Mad Men".People who travel and find the single life exciting will probably like this show. Good themes and social messages for people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. While the "Pan Am" era of the 1960s began with prosperity and ended in turmoil, during most of those years Americans never lost the belief that through hard work, intelligence, and good relationships you would almost always be able to rise up from entry level jobs to the middle class life and contribute to society.

If you flew internationally in the 1960’s to 1970’s….
If you experienced the glamour and excitement of Pan Am travel, this is for you. If you believe Stewardess is the proper name for flight attendants, this is for you. If you believe beautiful women can be brave, resourceful, and highly intelligent, watch this series. I am so smitten with the series and happier than I’ve been in such a long time. Highly recommend.

Excellent TV series
I saw some of the episodes when they were shown on satellite TV a few years back, but didn't see the whole thing. It really is very well done, with the four leading actresses looking very convincing as Pan Am stewardesses in the early sixties. The sets are well done, and shots of the aircraft, which must be digital effects, are excellent. On the whole, the stories are well done, the acting convincing and the locations and details good. There is the occasional blip, for example a sequence set in Monaco in early 1963 features a Jaguar E Type as part of the story, but the producers obviously couldn't find one of the right year, so use a US spec late 60's model instead. Probably a minor point, but it sticks out for those who notice this sort of thing! Don't let this put you off, it really is well done, very watchable. My only complaint is they didn't make any more, which to me was a missed opportunity.

Thoroughly enjoyable show.
Pan Am was a really good show, which unfortunately got canceled after one season. Whilst it was shown on the BBC in HD, no blu-ray release seems to be forthcoming, which is a shame as it did look amazing in HD.The show is set in the glory days of Pan Am, where passenger air travel was exclusive and glamorous and so was being a pilot or an air hostess. The show follows the adventures of the flight deck and cabin crew both on and off the plane.Towards the end of the season things start to get a bit far fetched in some of the plot lines, but that doesn't spoil the fact that the vast majority of the show is thoroughly enjoyable and well acted.

When Flying was a Special Experience
I have only watched the first three episodes of this mini series, but I love it. It is difficult to believe that flying in the 1960's was just for the privileged few and aircraft interiors where so spacious (unlike today where passengers are packed in like sardines). You definitely get the feel for what life was like flying with Pan Am back in the 60's and the storylines are good too.

A very enjoyable nostalgic trip back to the golden years of airline travel.
I think first & foremost it is a real shame that this did not go on for another season at least! I have given the 4 star rating, but in reality I would have given it 4 & a half, this is because I felt that the first 2 or 3 episodes started off a tad slowly......however from there on it just gets better & better. The only other negative observation is that the very enjoyable last episode leaves a lot of unanswered questions as to what happens next to the main characters. Obviously this is because they were expecting to make a second season which was then cancelled, but very disappointing when you want to know what happens in the non existent next season! If anyone who wants a nostalgic look back to the classic golden years of airline travel, then I would highly recommend they get this DVD.As far as the main actors are concerned, they all played their parts very well, but with a special mention to Christina Ricci & Kelli Garner, who were absolutely superb. Will they ever make another season? Well it would be great if they do, but I am not going to hold my breath, & being some 4 years since it was first broadcast I think it would be unlikely that they would get the same actors back. However, still well worth seeing.

The famous "Fly me" airline
I grew up with the Pan Am dream and aimed at one day be a part of a Clipper crew.Life did not exactly turn out that way but I was compensated with this series.Steadily you get to know the characters as humans even ifthe world look upon them as something superior. The series grows on you and itis proof of that when you sit down to revisit the series a second time. I enjoyedit and will now return with the company of my daughter.
