Better than what I expected
First off it arrived 2 days earlier than expected so good job Amazon. second I did enjoy building this product if you are familiar with Arduino at all then it will feel very easy and familiar to you the instructions are for a Windows computer and does not work on a Mac. I don't know why as all my other Arduino sketches work just fine on my mac luckily I have several computers most of them windows-based yet I digress. so the weather station kit was better than what I expected everything went together very well their tutorial online was easy to follow. You're just using the basic sketches that come with the weather station when you download the libraries and sketches from the interwebs I would have liked to have seen the ability to have pre set up and have the other sensor values in the pre-configured uses but that is also part of the fun is figuring more out for yourself and looking at many online tutorials this is a great basic kit to get you started with this with lots of room to grow I did find a light sensor a little odd it was bigger then it really needed to be also none of the headers come pre soldered on so I did have to do that but that's no big deal that's always a learning experience just wish I didn't have to do it but don't mind doing it I understand it was probably to keep the cost down somewhat overall I really enjoy this. it was fun. it's still fun. it's up and running all the time at my house. Now I just need to make and figure out a enclosure for it all and to get the rest of the sensor values to show on the screen. Thank you very much.

Not Very Impressed
I am a simple hobbyist and not an Electronics Engineer. That being said, the instructions are very choppy and somewhat inconsistent. I never received the "email" with any updated instructions. The "guidance" disc contains a ".doc" file with instructions but they are somewhat incomplete and outdated. I'm still not sure how I am supposed to email Ideaspark thru Amazon either. For example, the instructions to say add "Adafruit BMP085 Library", which the "guidance document" illustrates as though it were part of the Arduino Libraries. It's not. You have to manually download the ZIP from GitHub and install it first. It's NOT included in the "guidance disk" files. THere are similar confusing items as well. In addition, my OLED module doesn't even work. I am rather disappointed.

Doesn't compile
The code on the disk doesn't compile. Haven't figured out the problem yet.

Good kit with components and guide for the price
Good kit with components and startup guide for the price. Few things needs to be taken care and info.info-1: This kit can be run independently without laptop through a regular (~1A+) smartphone phone adapter so that it can be kept in any place to see / show weather forecast with time in OLED display.info-2: I got LoLin device with CH340 interface, so the driver came with the device didn't work after i connected the device to laptop and windows auto update installed the driver through search.1. In Windows 7 (32 bit), the ESP8266 flasher exe didn't work. So, I have used some old flasher from internet (year 2015 build i think).2. master code needs to be upgraded to latest 1.6.5 build else it was throwing compilation error.3. To use built-in LED, need to use the pin# 2.4. For BH1750FVI and BMP180, we need to solder on our own before using it. DHT11 module came with pre-soldered. In code setup module, couple of devices worked only after adding the statement next to setting the baud rate "Wire.begin(0, 2);". I was able to resolve this issue after getting some help from internet else i was getting bmp85 device is not identified, check circuit error for pressure digital module and the value of "54612 lux" which normally shows that the device is not good. I have unsoldered and resoldered, but the issue resolved after adding the statement wire.begin(0,2).

Quick and Easy way to get into the ESP8266
I ordered the Weather Station and Smart Switch kit. They both came in nice compact packaging, and most items were wrapped in ESD safe bags. I say most, because one ESP8266 was not, while one was. So that was odd to me.The included instructions and code were clear and complete. Assembly diagrams as well as what changes need to be done to the code were helpful and worth while.I am glad they provide the ESP code using the Arduino interface, that may be because I am familiar with Arduino. That being said there is a firmware called EasyESP that is able to accomplish almost the same goal. Potentially this is incapable of providing the pretty screen interface. It would be nice to have included the interface or software to design screen layouts and fonts. One last note: The seller was very prompt in providing the download links to the complied code, as newer computers don't have disk drives.Thank You.

Good components, weak documentation
The components are excellent. The sample software that comes with the kit is very good. It should have more comments in it to explain what it is doing so that a person without coding experience could more easily understand what it is doing and how it works. The actual manuals would get a ‘C’ grade in a high school class. They never say what the project is supposed to do, how it works or most importantly how to connect up the parts. The provide photos of the product assembled two different ways but never actually state why (because you can power the processor via battery or via 110 volts thru the provided power converter). You can also power it via usb cable but they never say that. The code actually compiles and runs but again there is no explanation of what it is supposed to do and the buttons provided are not intuitive. They also spelled many of the button labels and the few words in the documentation in a version of english that I don;’t recognize. The version of code they supply is only for use on a local WAN, not thru the internet. I have found code online from this same vendor that appears to use MQTT to access it from the WAN but I have not had time to see if I can get this to work yet. Would have been nice to add that to the CD or at least have a link to it in the documentation. I would be willing to give five stars if someone spent a few hours fixing/improving the documentation.
