75-Minute Prog Metal Concept Album About Anthropomorphised Rabbits
Kingdom of Ruin is a prog metal concept album about anthropomorphised rabbits. If you always wanted Watership Down to be turned into a 75-minute excercise in prog metal, look no further.Musically, it is an album of two halves. The first half contains heavier Pain of Salvation-influenced tracks. Some of these songs lack a little focus, a common complaint in the prog-metal genre. However, there are some gems including "Choke Faint Drown" and "Drained".The second half is almost all lighter rock songs and ballads. Whilst these can hardly be called metal, they are a lot more focussed, and most of my favourite tracks are found in the second half. Best songs include "The Rabbit Kingdom" and "An Empire Shattered" and ballad "A Father's Love", which wouldn't sound out of place in a Disney soundtrack. The album ends on a high note with 14-minute epic "The Garden Time Forgot".Also check out Vangough's "Acoustic Scars" EP which has a medley of songs from Kingdom of Ruin called "The Rabbit Chronicles".
