Brilliant!
The title of the review sums it up...brilliant! I purchased the album with a bit of skepticism; my trepidation was rooted in two things: 1) I'm a huge fan of Tony Mills voice and presence from past Shy albums and 2) Brave the Storm and Excess All Areas are two of my favorite albums from the mid-to-late 1980s; not AOR albums, but albums...period. So without Tony Mills and with much to live up to I was nervous. Well my skepticism was quickly dispelled - what an album! It's consistent start-to-finish; Steve Harris' guitar playing is incredible as usual amd the vocals of Lee Small are strong and have no resemblance to Tony Mills. My fear with the new singer is that Shy would attempt a Mills-lite sound, I couldn't have been more wrong. Small carves out his own sound while fitting in with the band perfectly. The band playing is undenialably Shy with a singer that compliments, and enhances, the music. Listening shows the great potential this line-up could have had; the loss of Steve Harris has unfortunately scuttled that notion. If this is an epitaph to the band it's a damn good ending!

Great CD!
I actually came across this band on Amazon a few years ago. They've been around quite a while but I never heard them back in the day. I bought pretty much every CD they have! Great band! They have a nice melodic sound yet very good guitar work and vocals are awesome too. Definitely a band with some talent! I would say this is definitely one of the top 3 CD's by Shy.

LOVE IT!
I love this album. I just wish there was more of their stuff available on Amazon. Can't seem to find any other albums, though I know that there are at least a few. Heard they went through alot of band member swaps over the years. If I can find any other albums, I just hope they sound as good as this one.

Shy
Not many releases "wow" me, but this one did. Classic rhythms and progressions, intelligent lyrics with great vocals. This one is definitely worth adding to your AOR collection!

Talking about a melodic hard rock comeback!!! "Shy" is back!
"Shy" is the self titled, 10th studio album by the legendary British AOR/melodic hard rock outfit. Having debuted in the early `80s, "Shy" was one of the first bands of the genre to emerge from the United Kingdom, forging an admirable career throughout the `80s, `90s and up until the mid `00s. "Shy" was put on hiatus in 2005 after the release of "Sunset and Vine" studio album and since lead singer Tony Mills has been fronting Norwegian melodic hard rock pioneers "TNT". After a five-year wait, bandleader/guitarist Steve Harris, bassist Roy Davis, keyboardist Joey Basketts and drummer Bob Richards, joined by new vocalist Lee Small have finally released their tenth full-length studio offering.Even the most demanding fans of the genre would probably agree that the Lee exceeds expectations putting on a masterful and stylish performance throughout the album, having a practically identical voice to that of Glenn Hughes. So clearly, "Shy" did not pick a Mills-clone-instead they brought in a distinct and passionate vocalist that recreates the essence of "Shy". In terms of performance, the guitars are once again the protagonist instrument of the band; ever-present adding a plethora of riffs, melodic lines and guitar solos. Still keyboard presence has increased in comparison to previous "Shy" albums. For that matter the role of keys is fundamentally different on this self titled album-instead of simply adding harmonies and melodic complements, Joey crafts orchestral arrangements through multiple keyboard levels. On account of the above, one happily realizes that while retaining the performance intensity their classic albums, their song structures/arrangements have become far more sophisticated. Out of the twelve songs of the album there is no filler to be found or anything that could be considered unnecessary material. "Shy" is back and they mean business!

Dont be SHY , & Pass this By.
This is a Great AOR release.. To me.. it is a Bit reminiscent of The 1980's release of the first and second Phenomenon recordings, A bit heavy on the keyboards, But it Works for them. Great Guitar work, and the Vox. are very Glenn Hughes-ish. Im glad I purchased this MP3 CD. Not a BAD SONG ON THIS CD !!!, Listen to the samples, and Make your own Choice.

A Great Return
Well it has to be said, this is a great comeback from the UK rockers. Tony Mills replacement on vocals "Lee Small" does a fantastic job, and in a tribute to his own vocals sounds similar to Glenn Hughes.Great tunes, superb guitar solo's, and solid drumming from Bob Richards make this a must buy CD or download. If you enjoy the likes of Sunstorm,Rainbow,WET or Journey you will love it.Let's hope they do a UK tour.

SHY by SHY
From the very first song {LAND OF A THOUSAND LIES } you can just hear how great LEE SMALL's voice is and the amazing guitar work of STEVE HARRIS . The whole album is just fantastic ,and stand out songs such as ,Ran out of time,Pray, and Save me are just brilliant!!!!! .I have been following SHY since the mid 80s and i know Tony Mills has a great voice ,but Lee Small is a perfect person to carry on the Shy flag.. I will miss the sound of Steve on guitar, but i hope Roy Davis and Lee Small will carry on the sound of SHY in the memory of Steve Harris and for fans like me!!!!!

What an outstanding piece of AOR - the late Steve Harris plays some incredible guitar! If this is anything to go by he will be missed.
