Garage Butler
I have had the Garage Butler installed for about a month now and it seems to work fine. I agree with other posters that the double sided tape is a joke. The DB9 connector sticking out the side for the wires is kind of hokey too. I think they should rework the case to have a removable back mounting plate that can be screwed to the wall with all the wire terminations on it. Then the front could be mounted to the back for a secure connection to the wall with all the wires concealed. The beeping is loud but I think that is a good safety feature so I left it alone. I posted some pictures of the way I mounted the magnetic door closed switch. I think that the problem some people are having with the switch may involve how they mounted it. I checked the switch before I mounted it and it performed well even with a 1/2 inch gap. But this kind of switch must be mounted away from steel to perform reliably. If you mount either component directly to steel then it probably will operate erratically. My only issue now is that I like to leave the door cracked open during the summer when I'm home for ventilation. Unfortunately the garage is dark then so the Butler tries to close it for me thinking it is night. I'm going to try rigging up a second door closed switch so it will think the door is closed when I have it cracked open.Over all a good product which just needs some refinements. I really enjoy the peace of mind not having to worry about if I forgot to close the door or not.

Very good reliable product...till one quit working after 2 years
One of our church members have this on their garage door opener and they love it. So after a little investigation online and after a couple of incidents at my house I decided to give this product a chance. I purchased 2 of these on Amazon from a seller named ebuys53. My shipment came in very shortly after I ordered. When I got them I started going through the manual and learned that this product was very simple to understand and after considering some suggestions from some Amazon buyers I decided to install my system using screws instead of double sided tape provided by the manufacturer. However I think the double sided tape will work just fine if your garage stays cool. My garage walls as well as my garage door is insulated and so it stays relatively cool all the time.Needless to say after I installed this product on my main garage I just love it. It started working from the minute I turned it on. The best thing I liked about this product is using an AC adapter instead of a battery. The only thing I do not like is the high pitch beep before the butler closes the garage door. I took care of it by sticking a scotch tape on the console where the sound comes from. It lowered the sound level by a third and now it is bearable.I highly recommend this product.

Simplifies Life and Provides Peace of Mind
We purchased the Garage Butler Automatic Garage Door Closer because we have left our garage door open and had to call the neighbor to check and close it for us. Won’t even mention the times we have left the garage door open all night. The product description has a good explanation of the devices basic operation. During normal operation with remotes and standard garage door buttons you don’t even know the Garage Butler is there. Its real work starts when you forget to close the garage door!Installation required a staple gun, step ladder, and a few other simple hand tools. We ran the door sensor cable up along the side the garage door, across the ceiling, and down the wall to the Garage Butler Door Closer. We then ran the power cable from the Garage Butler Door Closer up the wall, across the ceiling, and then plugged the AC power supply into the ceiling mounted AC outlet used by the garage door closer. All cables are held in place with staples. Installation is well documented in the instructions. Recommend that you take the time to really look at the Z and L brackets for the sensor contacts. Make sure you understand how and where the brackets mount and the spacing requirements for the contacts.PROS• Door closer has 6 timer options (3, 10, 20, 30, 45 or 60 minutes) that you set with a simple push of a button.• Unit has a manual hold button that will keep the door open until it senses that it is dark outside at which time it will close the door. No more forgetting to close the door when it gets dark; like when you have the door partially open in the evening to help cool the house and then go to bed.• Unit has manual on/off switch so you can easily disable the timer.• No batteries required – unit is completely AC powered.CONS• Power wire that runs from the AC power supply to the wall mounted Garage Butler Door Closer unit is around 15 feet long. The instructions say not to extend these power leads. This could be a problem for some if you need longer cable run. We had plenty of power cable to make the run from the wall unit to the AC outlet that is mounted in the ceiling for the garage door opener. Using the same AC outlet that is used by the garage door opener made a simple, clean installation.• No way to mount the Garage Butler Door Closer unit on the wall with screws without opening the unit and making your own mounting holes. The two-sided tape has worked great so far! This could be a minor concern for some.• We did use screws to mount the door sensor switch components to the garage door and track instead of relying on just the two-sided tape that is supplied. We live in a location that gets very hot in the summer and has very low humidity, so we were concerned that the two-sided tape would dry out over time. If the sensor switch gets misaligned (or falls off), the closer will not function properly (duh).• There is no remote control or communication built into the Garage Butler Automatic Garage Door Closer. This is a relatively simple device. If you need the ability to control or monitor your garage door with your phone then this is not the device for you.• The beeper that triggers when the Garage Butler starts to automatically close the garage door seemed a little loud to us. We solved this by placing a piece of tape over the beeper opening.Picture 1 -- Garage Butler Closer Unit with excess wiring harness mounted next to unit.Picture 2 -- Shows Garage Butler Door sensor installation.Picture 3 -- Shows sensor wire routing up wall along side of garage door.Picture 4 -- Shows Garage Butler AC power supply and wire routing. We purchased the unit on sale and have been thrilled with the operation. Recommend this for anyone who has CRS (Can’t Remember Stuff) and has accidentally left their garage door open. This product was not provided as a sample for this review, so none of these comments are influenced in any way by the seller.
