Stanley Global SGT119X Smartbadge CAC ID Holder Smart Card Reader with Retractable USB Connector (FIPS 201 Approved) (TAA Compliant)

USB connection and retractable lanyard.This worked for 45 days before the USB Cable/connection started to fail...and the reader stopped reading the card. I would remove the PIV Badge and reinsert - the light would come on for about 10 seconds and go off. The badge is not being read by the reader. It works fine in a colleagues reader (different model), and the USB works on everything else...it's definitely the reader that is failing. Amazon won't refund, as it is over 30 days from purchase. The company that sold it will not replace it with a different model, only with the same model. (Most all of the 1-Star reviews on this reader are regarding the same issue - product failure. All the 5-Star reviewers apparently got quality products that did not fail.) The company has informed me they have redesigned this product several times. I suspect that is to try and eliminate this recurring issue in a small percentage of the readers sold. My PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with products made in China is they are often inconsistent in quality...which may be the culprit here. The representative I consulted with regarding my complaint was professional and courteous and did tell me the product has a lifetime replacement warranty/guarantee, so at least if I get another one that is faulty, it can be replaced again.

It is very convenient but a little heavy. It would be even better if instead of an attached cord there was a female micro-USB connector. You could then leave the retractable cord at the computer or carry in your pocket. I attached the USB connector to the back of the holder using Velcro to prevent it from hanging and minimize stress on cord when not in u se.

The product delivered does not match the picture. The product came with a USB micro connector and a USB micro to USB adapter. This adapter does not fit well to the USB micro connector and hardly works. This product is now useless after 3 months of frustration. I'm ready to throw it away. When it works, it works. But that rarely happens without having to constantly fiddle with the adapter and even hold it in place while trying to type in the password to make the card work.

Received this product in a very timely manner. It works flawlessly!!! I couldn't be more happy. Work requires a the use of a Smartcard keyboard reader or a usb card reader to login and work. This badge holder eliminates the possibility of leaving the badge in the keyboard after work is done. Love it!!!

Had this reader for about 8 months now. I work in a government contracting office and maintain 40+ Lenova laptops, a dozen Microsoft Surface Pros and two servers. I just plug it in and never have to worry about where I left my smart card. Note this is also a great smart card reader for tablet users who need smart card access - your smart card stays on your body at all times which is a big plus for me. Also works fine on my personal Macbook Air (Yosemite OS) using Pkard. I bought this and a SGT118 which is similar but without the retractable cable. Highly recommend.

I purchased this item on 08/12, today is 10/07 and it is not working. The USB adapter is not making a good connection with the computer. It drops the connect and causes the USB device of the computer to lock and a reboot is required to correct the issue. The concept for this device is good, but the adapter, in my opinion, can not take the constant connecting and unconnecting to the computer. I would give it a lower rating if I could. Will be looking for another reader without the micro-usb to usb adapter.

It lasted 2 years, then something internal broke and I can't slip my card in the slot.

I was working remotely and having problems with everything - Wi-Fi, rebooting, etc. The final straw was the laptop not reading the smart card. Then I remembered I'd bought this external card reader to use with my personal computer. It worked and prevented me from throwing the computer out a window.
