Prosaic. Contrived to the nth degree.
Spies, intrigue, and romance during the Napoleonic Wars should have made this exciting, or at least interesting. It didn't work out that way for me.Greville was inscrutable and his character was wooden as a result.Virtually no major circumstance in the novel gave a sense of having naturally developed, but had the feel of having been manufactured. These contrivances throughout the story weren't subtle, they were startling.Romance? Not much. The story was a plodder with lots of words that just didn't go anywhere. I continually had to re-read paragraphs, thinking I had just missed some cogent point. But no, just a bunch of lazy words not doing their jobs. And the villain. Good grief, "El Demonio," complete with his sidekick from the Inquisition! Reminded me of old TV shows.Another thing: The men wore knee-BREECHES...not "britches." There is also modern vernacular throughout. This didn't help my concentration.I had a tough time wading through this. Do not recommend.

" And to the best of my knowledge
This is fairly interesting, but there is quite a bit of contemporary language that is certainly jarring in the context of the early 19th century. Examples include "liaise" and "feedback," among others. There's also a wardrobe malfunction of sorts when a female character uses a "broach" to fasten a mantilla at her decolletage. Once and for all, the word is spelled B-R-O-O-C-H, even if it does rhyme with "roach." And to the best of my knowledge, a mantilla is a lace veil, usually black, that is secured in the hair with decorative combs and allowed to fall loose to the shoulders. And the pace does drag on with repetitious back-and-forthing. But hey, it's fiction.

Very enthralling regency romance mixed with the excitement of espionage plot
I enjoyed this story very much. I like the strong personality of the heroine that the author creates and most certainly love Aurelia's in this story. The espionage plot has made this story a very intriguing and enjoyable read. I agree that the dialog is not quite regency and more modern but somehow, this has not affected the thrills and excitment of the story. In short, a must read for any regency romance fan.

Fascinating series
Woman to woman I always feel our predecessors were greatly underestimated and these stories show that. If women of this era didn't do things of historical value it was either because they weren't given training and opportunity or they did it on their own anyway and no one acknowledged and recorded it.

Absolute struggle to get through...2.5 Stars
I wonder if I read the same book as the other reviewers. This book was soooo boring for me. I kept waiting for it to get better but it really didn't. I hardly felt a connection between the hero and heroine and their romance and the whole story in general was quite drab. Easily a couple of hundred pages could have been removed from this book...too much unnecessary writing - conversations and descriptions not essential to the story that made it even more boring than it was already. I liked the characters and they had the potential for a good story, but it just wasn't there for me. I put this down so many times and read other books while trying to get through this one. Obviously, from the other reviews there are some who really enjoyed this, but I cannot recommend it.

This was very good!
I enjoyed this book so much. The characters were really great I haven't read the other two of the series but you don't have to because you understand it perfectly! Very sexy not overly descriptive. One thing it does do is make you want to read the other two.

Intriguing finale to the affairs in Cavendish Square
Loved the other two books in the series. Enjoyable historical romances each with its own stand alone plot. Culminating in this final tale which weaves around it's predecessors.
