Not your average curling rod...learning curve ahead, but worth the effort!
I have long hair that went wavy/curly on it's own about 5 yrs ago after a lifetime of bone straight, stubborn hair that (I kid you not) would take an average of 7 hrs just to take a perm! I haven't had a perm in probably 30 yrs now, and I come from a long, long line of hair dressers in the family. I've quite enjoyed the natural curls and waves these past years but they came with a frizz factor since I have fine hair. It's strong as can be, but still fine textured so frizz on the curls is a concern for me. There's also the age frizz now too, going grey and no intention of coloring it but if you have grey hair you know it has a mind and texture of its own!My hair is well below the bra strap level on my back. I actually cut 3 inches off after using the chopstick the first time because it was quite a time I had trying to wrap the length around the rod...and it's a long rod. Now hair is about an inch below the bra strap level. I also layered it a little more which makes the end result look a whole lot more natural. It was easier the second time, and each time i use it becomes easier but it is NOT the easiest due to the length, although one side is easier than the other to do. I wish I was ambidextrous it would help using this thing! I also spent some time on google watching others use it because it just has to be easier than it is. I think practice is all it will take. Despite my emphasis on this part of it, it still takes me 30 mins or less to curl my whole head. I do separate in sections to do it and that's no fun either, lol. I saw one youtuber (pro hair stylist) say it was better to do it without sectioning but I think it would be too easy to miss pieces.Incredibly, hair length is just below the shoulder when curled with the chopstick! I don't like what it does with the shorter hair like my bangs. My hair is layered somewhat and with bangs and the stick just curls them crazy wonky looking so I use my normal 3/4 inch barrel curling wand to curl them back and leave it in a little longer so they curl tight and don't look out of place with the rest of it. I also am not a fan of straight, pointy ends but due to how this wraps that's how the curls end u so I take my round wand and do some of them just at the tips to get rid of the pointy straight out look. Its kinda cool to watch it gain length a couple days in a row if I don't wash it, it lengthens as the curls loosen so by third day my length is almost back. Definitely the curls last 3 days without any extra effort or products at all, but I can't say after that because I can't stand NOT to wash it after 3 days.I'm still trying to figure out how to keep it from going frizzy after first day - easy enough to scrunch with hair oil right after curling it to control that, but next day is another thing and I'm quite certain I'd never get a normal brush or comb through it after the first day! Typically I've just used my fingers as a comb the second day and third day it goes up or braided or something because the frizz is too much for me to bear. So far I have tried oiling it lightly just running my hands through it before curling - makes hair slippery so harder to wrap around the rod. I've used texture spray - not fond of it and I probably used too much, it made the hair feel filthy dirty to me. I'll only use that when I want to curl same day it's washed now. It sure clung to the rod and took the curl well but did nothing for the fuzz factor using texture spray, if anything made it worse. I've curled it same day I washed it and the day after it was washed - always better day after, and that goes for curling with anything hot. I've added spray gel while hair is damp, that helped some. It sure made the curls last a lot better, as in next day virtually the same as the first day! What helps the most is using a shampoo and conditioner that kills the frizz. Also oiling it by scrunching it into the hair and ends after curling. Next I'm going to try oiling it a little heavier before curling like I saw one youtuber do.One other thing is that I find it easier to use if I'm not trying to wrap hair on the rod while watching in the mirror, it's easier to do it without looking. And no matter what, I use heat protection spray before curling. This thing gets hot, I mean incredibly hot. I already have a professional grade iron with adjustable heat settings and I keep it on the highest because like I said, my hair has been stubborn to curl all my life. I also don't leave hair on any hot iron for more than 5 seconds - always count 1001, 1002, 1003....you get the idea and then off it comes. Chunky chopstick I set at 300 and that is plenty adequate and I don't need to worry about chunks of hair burning off while I curl - that could be an issue for some new users because you can have issues unraveling the hair length if its long and while your trying to find the tip again the rest is still wrapped on the rod. For long hair its imperative to keep that tip in your fingers and unravel the curl cuz it won't unravel and slide off on its own! I haven't burned myself with a curling rod in mega years, but in the first week I burnt myself 3 times with this one! That was on the 300 setting, can't imagine how bad the burns would have been if it were higher. Scabbed over they were so bad! I also learned to wear a long sleeve shirt or something while curling because one of those burns was on my arm. I'm NOT joking, it is hot. It comes with a grippy black glove for heat protection on one hand but I just can't seem to use it effectively. It does keep the heat off the fingers though. You get the hang of hanging on to the hair tips in a hurry so after that it doesn't feel essential to protect finger tips. I think handling the hair with it on adds to the frizz too. Also FYI I read (and my hairdresser family condones same) nothing higher than 350 for hair curling. For my hair type anyway - blonde, old, fine...LOL.This was a great value, I am in Canada and had to order off Amazon USA site to get it, even with exchange rate it was a decent price in comparison to CA prices for high end curling wands or irons, and the unit is well made. I love its hot pinky-purple color too. All in all, if you have long straight hair you'll probably love it...if you have hair around shoulder length or a little longer I'd say you'll really love it! I don't know about short hair...think that rod is too long for that - oh should say I bought the 5/8 thick chopstick figured the smaller one would do outrageous curls ha ha and I think I chose well for my head!If this review was helpful click the button below.

Disappointed
I've tried 3 of the Chopstick Stylers and I was more disappointed with each one I received.I've had the original Chopstick Styler for a couple years now and I LOVE it. I have thin hair and the original is the first wand I've found that my curls last more than a couple hours. It takes a little getting used to, but I love that I can curl my hair and last for days. I have thin hair that's about 3" past my shoulders and curling my hair with the original takes about 30 minutes. I curl my hair then run my fingers through it using hair oil and it makes the curls not so Shirley Temple ish. I don't have any complaints about the ORIGINAL.Since I loved the original wand so much, I decided to buy the Chunky Chopstick Styler. The Chunky styler is definitely not as great as the original but it's not terrible. I found the lines from the square barrel show more the bigger the wand. Obviously this isn't ideal to have creases in your curls. I did keep the Chunky wand because I think with more practice, the creases won't be as noticeable.Since the Chunky Styler curls weren't as big as I was looking for, I ordered the Master Styler. I worked with the curler multiple times and really couldn't get a decent curls without terrible creases. Even though I would 100% recommend the original Chopstick Styler, I would not recommend the Master. I feel like the idea of the bigger barrel was good, it just doesn't produce the same curls as the original.

Years of flat ironing,....
This review is for the chunky wand. Long story short, I have naturally curly hair. My husband kept telling me to go curly, natural, but ladies my hair is a big, frizzy, inconsistent curls. Tight curls underneath and loose frizz on top. I have tried every known product for my mane. Years I was flat ironing and styling. Well, I decided to give it another go and first day, seriously I tried it, I went to the store and a young lady said I love your hair. My hub says I look younger lol....so I am embracing my curls thanks to this chunky wand. I am so glad I tried it. With my hair the curls do last and do a touch up when the frizz sets in. I have even put in a few extensions when wanting some length and try to incorpate my own frizz lol...worked big time for me!!!

Great iron, curls last and easy to use
Love this! I bought The Chunky iron. I was able to curl with ease on the 1st try. For reference, My hair is fine and has a slight bend to it. It worked great. I suggest just watching some how-to videos on YouTube / in terms of how to wrap and hold iron. Knowing those 2 things will avail you to curl your hair correctly. You must point the iron down, never up! Start wrapping hair from root down iron to the end, hold for a few seconds (I did approx. 10 sec). Loved that it has a heat setting - I set it at 340°, but could have set it at 300°. This was my 1st try and I’m hooked! Go ahead and purchase this great iron.

Game changer!
I have naturally curly hair. Some of my curls don't always go the way I want them to. I usually use a straightener the curly my hair the way I want it, but it doesn't hold all day like I want it to. This wand did just that! I only used the 300 degree heat setting, held my hair on for about 5 seconds, and it created a perfect curl that lasted days! Now I'm finally able to perfect my curly hairstyle the way I want to without worrying too much about the humidity taking them out! Best hair tool I have ever bought!

amazing 👏
I absolutely love their products! The 1st picture is right after i freshly curled it, the 2nd picture is after sleeping in the curls and brushing them the next morning, the 3rd picture is what my hair normally does on its own. It keeps the curls really well for very long time it doesn't get frizzy and everyone that I see compliments my hair. I loved it so much I bought another (the long). It does need a heat glove.
