CURT 22750 Black Steel Trailer Hitch Cover, Fits 2-Inch Receiver, Bulk, Black

I have bought this cover not to protect the receiver (really, unless you paint and fill out the hole with silicon, no "plug" will protect it from the rust), but to mount a backup camera on my 95 Tacoma. For this purpose CURT steel cover works like a dream. It is a welded piece of steel, that will survive any "rear end" mishap from other drivers, and unless someone comes with a welding torch, there is no way to steal or damage the camera.I made my own insert that goes inside this square tube and holds the camera. 14mm hole drilled in the back side of this cover provides a window behind the recessed camera is "observing". The camera is "Esky EC170-06 World Smallest HD Color CCD Waterproof Vehicle Car Rear View Camera" - good picture quality for the price.Now, I read people complain about the hole position making the cover either to short or to long. I do not agree with these statements. The hole is oval trying to accommodate receivers installed on cars, but it seems there is no standard, how far from the receiver back the hole should be. The same manufacturer can't make this identical between models, so how you can expect that one will fit all?In my 95 Tacoma the hole was about 1/2 to far making the cover sticking out about 1/2 inch out of the receiver. Included foam spacer can't fill the gap leaving about 1/4 space. In 2012 4Runner it is even worse - the hole seems to be about 1 inch to far away. I haven't tried on other trucks.So instead of buying and returning the product measure the space between your receiver end and the center of the hole. If it is about 2.5inch you should be OK, if it is less, this cover will rattle, it it is more, you will not be able to fit it. Simple as that.I had no problem with the hole location - I drilled my own hole in the location exactly where I needed it. No rattle - perfect fit.

Has a foam ring around the shank to take up vibration. You have to push hard into the receiver to get the holes to line up. It fit nice and tight so there isn't any rattle. It looks good too.

Very good quality, it's has a good amount of heft to it. This cover is all steel no plastic parts at all. It has a foam ring around the inside to reduce any bumping into the frame. It was a little snug so it took two people to install. I pressed the cover as hard as I could in order to compress the foam while the other person inserted the pin. This was actually a good thing as it doesn't rattle or move at all.I drilled a hole in the center to install a backup camera. Be warned, the metal is very thick so you will need a drill press or vice to drill it.

I drilled a hole in this with the hole saw https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZZLK88S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.The steel was too strong for the cheap hole saw that came with the backup camera that will be mounted in the hole.Construction of this item is excellent; however, the foam it came with was too thick for my receiver to align.I used one of the foam pads from another Amazon purchase, the HitchSafe to allow that tube cover to be mounted.As it turned out the one that came with the tube cover was just the right size to mount the HitchSafe- worked out well for me :)I painted the face white to match the car [the camera isn't pressed in yet, since I need to have it installed and on so that I can align the lens before pressing it into the hole.Note: the burring around the hole was caused during drilling - the plate was unblemished when received.

Good fit for a 2 inch hitch. Great quality and great finish with some bumps.If you don’t mind small, really tiny dots on the finish, this product is great and perfect materials.Price quality can’t complaint!!
