Long-run, local recording is substantially less expensive than internet recording, so I go that route. I've been using 128GB cards for years. I've needed to use those 128GB cards for my action cams/drones, plus I don't need 128GB of storage as one month of storage only amounts to about 32GB of storage with my newer security cams and their efficient recording (HEIC).
