The Samteck knife has an exceptional quality and value
I collect good quality knives but I cannot say that even if they are made of the same mark of steel, they have similar characteristics. Even if for example they are produced e.g. from VG10, their parameters differ greatly. There is no perfect knife as there is no anything perfect in any matter, like life condition, education, profession etc. In any case the judgement based of the personal preference and the evaluation may be made only of comparison of individual characteristic of the product. Who cares what is the name of the steel or number of hardness. I think, some of the main characteristics are balance, longevity, resistance to hard materials, aesthetic look and convenience to handleHow frequently your knife is easily to sharp but becomes dull fast, gets ugly after a few days of work, or inconvenient or even dangerous to handle. In all those ways, the Fantech meets and even exceeds my expectations. First, it look beautiful by itself, due to its shape of blade, red wood of handle and very attractive packaging. Then, although I used it frequently for two weeks the sharpness is not deteriorated. It seems as good as is just unpacked. Connection of the blade with the handle is very stable no matter how hard you press on the handle. By the way, a few times in my experience a new knife which looked nice in the beginning started wobbling in the handle, that is not only dissapointing but may get dangerous. Now, the only "complain" I may have, that the knife is not as sharp from out of the box as can be expected from description. But there is no knife that will keep its sharpenss forever. It is always a matter of time until it requires sharpening. What counts in practice is how easy or fast is to sharp the knife and how long it keeps the edge. I sharped the knife practically the same day when I got it. It was easy and as I said it is very sharp after two weeks of work. To me it is a deciding factor in evaluating the knife. For example, I have a few knives of German steel, and while they are easy to sharpen, they do not keep the edge for more than a week. Or, if we take for example some knives of Japan production made of VG10, like a "professional police" knives. They keep the edge fine but require a long time to appropriately sharp them. Another reason why people complain about a sharpness out of the box is because some are lazy or do not know how to sharpen it appropriately. Let me assure the potential buyer that if you use for example, Lansky Sharpening System, and keep strictly 17 degrees angle between the stone and the blade, the knife under consideration will be perfectly sharp in about 10-15 minutes and will not get any ugly scratches visible by directly above the edge.To summarize my review, let me assure that I am only surprised why such a beautiful knife is sold for such a relatively low price. Practicaly, you can expect such a knife cost twice more.

Very decorative and sharp knife!
It's required by law to disclose if a review has been of a free product, and Fanteck (or rather Grand Sharp) did send this to me.This knife is very nicely made, with a full tang, heavy blade, and highly polished handle. The "Damascus" pattern is very pronounced and looks quite good. The blade does seem to be extremely hard and of course extremely sharp. I've tried cutting cardboard, garden plants, peppers, meats, and whole sandwiches, and the knife hasn't shown any signs of dulling. Even today I cut an egg sandwich in half then proceeded to slice a bell pepper into ribbons with minimal effort. One of the first things I did with it was cut out all of the cardboard flowers that were printed on the Amazon box.I think this knife would be most at home on a charcuterie/cheese board where everything has an aesthetic purpose. The wood and metal is very pretty and nice to look at and would stand out in such a setting. Of course, it slices through cheese like its butter. The wooden box it comes in is garbage though. I wish it just came in a normal cardboard box.I've bought other Grand Sharp knives and they've all been nicely made, but this one is by far the most decorative knife I've seen from them.

Quality knife at a bargain price
My wife is the chef in the family, and sometimes I get to help her with the prep work. I'm not as good as she is, so I wanted to get myself a better knife to try and keep up with her. That is when I found this knife. It has a cool laser pattern on it resembling a Damascus style, which gives it a bit of flair when holding it. As for function, you can feel the quality when you first pick it up. The handle fits nicely in my hand and the wood feels extremely comfortable. The entire knife feels balanced as well, which is something you want with your blade. I felt more like a pro while I was cutting and chopping vegetables. In addition to function and form, the initial presentation also is a pleasant surprise. The gift box is a hefty recycled cardboard so your knife won't be damaged in shipping. They also provide you with a knife sharpener, because you will want to keep this beauty in top form! If you are looking for a great knife on a budget, look no further than this knife!

It slices, it dices but wait there's more....
Ok, I'll admit I'm a bit of a knife fan boy so will usually spend a lot more on knives than this but when money's a bit tight sometimes you need to look at different options. There's a lot to like with this one and only one thing so far not to. The balance is a bit off so extended knife wielding time does get a bit tiresome. It's bloody sharp and does look different with the etching.... did I mention it's bloody sharp! For the money you can't go wrong with this one, plain and simple. Treat it right and care for it correctly and I'm sure this knife will be a firm favourite for all that own one.Golden rule......DON'T PUT A QUALITY BLADE IN THE DISHWASHER, LIKE NEVER EVER! Use it, wash it with warm soapy water as soon as you can, dry it then put it away.... every few times of usage run it through a fine knife sharpener and that's it.... pretty simple really
