Awesome album, letdown box set
So let me be clear I’m not reviewing the album just the Resist Limited Edition box set. Firstly the positives are everything is as advertised including the shirt which came as a large (luckily) despite never asking for a size. The cassette and CD are both ot good quality and the box itself is aesthetically pleasing. The bad news however is firstly Amazon or whoever packaged it managed to dent the hell out of the box in very noticeable ways and also I was very unhappy to see the items in the box rattle around loose, theyre literally just loose inside the box so it’s a wonder they didnt get damaged. The box itself wasnt so lucky. Essentially you get the CD, cassette, two picks, 6 poker cards and a shirt. The poker cards are pretty pathetic, about half the size of real cards and feel very cheaply made. Its just sad to look inside a beaten up box and see 4 small items loose inside that I paid 40 pounds for. Unless you’re a mega fan like me it simply isnt worth the money for this box set. Just some nice foam inner packaging to seperate the items and keep them safe would of made a world of difference.

within temptation at it best. but amazon at worst again.
With "Resist" Within Temptation goes back to the storytelling of "The Unforgiven" album but this times with a new out of worldly style. I've been a fan for a hell of a long time and love the way they put together there albums adding rap, hip-pop of the last album and adding a new electronic sound to this one plus the good old orchestral sound they all have to making of a good rock album that add to there repertoire as great artists.that's all for the album.as to amazon I think they are now treating their customers as they do their employees. I call them up to see where the Autorip was, and was told there was not one you had to buy the mp3 download. looks to me as all prepaid and new releases do not have it you have to buy it. but on amazon music it tell you, "you will get a download when you buy music on amazon. "DON'T YOU BELIEVE IT YOU HAVE TO BUY IT IF IT'S A NEW RELEASE"I then ask for the sizes of the t-shirts you get with the super deluxe version of the album, as I need a 2xl or 3xl only to be told the web page did not have the sizes on it, so I asked if they can call the warehouse up and get them off the boxes. but no they can not call the warehouse. so you have to pay out £40.50 for the album and take pot luck on the size of t-shirt you get. you can get the sizes you need off other online music sites just not the biggest one in Europe.in the end I get just the album, they are now treating their customers as they do their employees.

Hold The Line...
Some musicians have that perceptive gift of knowing … call it the right music for the right time. Within Temptation – very connected to not only their fans but also the world around them – have repeatedly throughout the course of their career delivered the needed message at just the right moment in time. And in doing so, they have somehow managed to keep their music contemporary enough as to not stagnate or be repetitive – they have kept it new and refreshing with each release. Resist is no exception. These songs don’t deviate too severely from the core WT sound, but they nevertheless feel fresh, vibrant and resonate with a strong sense of conviction. In addition to the totally cool musical vibe – somewhat darker and more electronic than the Hydra sound – I love the stripped down and sincere emotion coming out of the speakers. Apparently, this album almost didn’t happen, and WT was almost over – the members feeling they didn’t have any more to contribute. Thankfully, Resist is not only a strong emotional statement, it feels a bit like a rebirth for this band. The symphonic metal days are long gone, but this music is still very passionate, intense and even heavy at times. More importantly, the catchy melodies and infectious choruses are intact, and it would be an understatement to say that Sharon den Adel’s vocal performance is spectacular. She just brings it again and again on these songs – impossible to really pick a favorite.Musically, this album is consistently high quality. 10 songs may be a bit short given the band’s symphonic history, but it works to near perfection as these songs are diverse, yet cohesive as a unit – a fantastic listen from start to end. The music might not seem as “metal” heavy as even the aggressive tracks from the last 2 albums, but sometimes less is more. We aren’t treated to as many symphonic instrumentations as in albums past – not even a piano ballad (although it appears briefly at just the right time). Instead, the band decided to move in a more contemporary/electronic direction. Not surprisingly, given this band/these musicians, they make it work.“The Reckoning” sets the tone right from the start – this is a mature unit with much still left to contribute to the musical world. The dubstep elements (which thankfully are not overdone) add just the right amount of modernity/tech to the milieu. “Endless War” brings the message home, and has that familiar WT catchiness, especially in the chorus, but the electronic elements once again set this apart from what these guys have done in the past. This is followed by the killer anthemic and slightly folk/Celtic inspired “Raise Your Banner.” I love the drum/percussive elements here. And then there is “Holy Ground,” a song which simply commands an audience – the words and music so majestic and powerful. One of the big surprises on this release is the guest performance of Jasper Steverlinck (lead vocals on the vaunted Guilt Machine release from 2009) on “Firelight.” That album remains a stand-out, and his performance here is no less than wonderful. “Mercy Mirror” is another brilliant song from both a musically and lyrically – Adel’s voice absolutely sublime as she works through the vulnerably confessional words. “Trophy Hunter” closes things out with that “show ending” epic hugeness – one of the heaviest songs here. The album cover is awesome and the digipak and layout very streamlined/modern in a cinematic fashion. This “fan package” is really nice and comes in a very sturdy “flip-top” box. I’m not sure how I feel about the instrumental versions included on this deluxe edition – Sharon’s vocals are such an essential part of the WT sound. But one of the great attributes of instrumental discs is the way they serve to really showcase everything else the band brings in support of the vocals. And I just think the cassette (in black no less) is cool. I mean, we hated them back in the day, yet most of my “in car” music in those days was listening to cassettes, so they have their nostalgic place in music history. The T shirt (soft comfort), pics and cards are just the icing on the cake. I love it. BETTER with every spin!

More Symphonic Than Expected
I was pleasantly surprised. Back to the good old fashioned symphonic sound, but now with a Syfy twist! My favorite WT since Heart Of Everything!! Best songs are Endless War, Supernova, and Holy Ground
