Edinburgh, 1874. On the coldest day in the history of the world, little Jack is born with his heart frozen solid. Wasting no time, midwife Madeleine takes action and saves his life by inserting a cuckoo-clock in place of his icy heart. And now Jack will live as long as he observes three golden rules: He must never touch the hands of the clock. He must master his anger. He must never, ever fall in love. But fall in love he does, to a bespectacled young street performer, Miss Acacia, with a soul-stirring voice. Now begins a journey of escape and pursuit, from Edinburgh to Paris to Miss Acacia's home in Andalusia. Based on the novel by Mathias Malzieu, JACK AND THE CUCKOO-CLOCK HEART is a fantastical, wildly inventive tale of love and heartbreak, by turns poignant and funny, in which Jack finally learns the great joys, and ultimately the greater costs, of owning a fully formed heart.

Fantastic!
I stumbled across this little gem while searching for an animated movie for my grandson. We agreed on this one & started watching it. I was hooked after 15mins! He fell asleep (naptime) but I could not turn it off. It's basically about the love of a mother for her child; the love of a caretaker for the child; and then love at first sight for the young child, who carries it into adulthood. The song lyrics are not your typical animated movie songs - they are more suited for a Broadway show. In fact, this story & songs would make a great Broadway show. The storyline was bittersweet but what really tugs at your heart are the songs. They are well performed and delivered crisp & clear. I knew I had heard the female character's singing voice somewhere else, but it took me half way through the movie to place it - - Samantha Barks - Les Misérables - Éponine! This is 1 of only 3 animated movies on my 'collection' list to watch again & again. It's a bittersweet love story, not bound by time, that is defined by a lyrical opus. I highly recommend a soft blanket, bottle of wine, and a couch when watching this movie - but definitely watch it.

A Treat for the Eyes and Ears
The story isn't too strong, and the mouths still match the French script, and subtitles have a different translation than the spoken words, so confusing dialogue can exist in a couple cases. That's the only bad things I can say. Good things? THIS MOVIE IS EYE AND EAR CANDY. The songs, the visuals, the clever banter and jokes... Even if the plot is fairly weak and predictable, the way they present it and the Tim Burton slash Doctor Seuss visuals, with a music style that fits a time before VHS even existed, I love this movie for those reasons. I get actual CHILLS from at least half a dozen scenes just due to the music and art style. Buy this movie if you can even say you slightly enjoy James and the Giant Peach, Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, or anything similar. Elfman and Burton would clap at the end of this film.

Wonderful animated rendition of The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart
I love the novel by Mathias Malzieu so much that when I found out that they created a movie I knew it was a much watch. I enjoyed it so much that I had to buy a copy for myself and gift one to a friend that I know loved the novel as well. A bonus for me is that the original graphic designer, Nicoletta Ceccoli, is one of my favorite artists and i loved seeing her work brought to life in this film.

This is such a beautiful love story between two people who are not afraid to fall in love! Visually stunning indeed.
I had no idea that Luc Besson's film company produced this movie.I saw Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock recently at a film festival. This is one of the most stylish and imaginative animated movies of today. The animation is absolutely gorgeous. The music by Mathias Malzieu is just so soulful. This family friendly animated movie brings to life a very unique tale of love and the acceptance of others through a very touching story about a boy named Jack. He's not afraid to fall in love and to live his life to the fullest. If you love Les Miserable's Samantha Barks' singing, you will love her even more in this. She sang beautifully in this film. I can't wait to re-watch this movie again. Michelle Fairley (Lady Stark from Game of Thrones)also had a fun part in this movie too.
