Large Catappa Leaves (Almond Leaves, Terminalia, Ketapang) Each Leaf is Approx. 5-8" Long and 3-5" Wide (exact color and size will vary due to this being a natural item) You will receive 10 Leaves in this Pack & 25 Alder Cones (Alder Cones are very small, please keep this in mind! Each is about the size of a dime) Catappa Leaves are commonly used amongst aquarium owners because they have many positive effects on your home fish tank. Many people use them to help condition their water, removing heavy metals, releasing natural tannins and lowering the PH. They have also been used to help promote spawning in shrimp and other aquarium creatures. They have been known to also have mild anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. The leaves will naturally water log after 1-3 days, and can remain in the tank until almost completely dissolved. Alder Cones are a great addition to aquariums with shrimp. Alder cones release high amounts of tannins in the water (creating a tan/brown water color) To decrease the amount of Tannins in the water, you can first boil alder cones. Cool & rinse before adding to aquarium.

Good Deal! My Snails Like These.
I have a 55 gallon aquarium that has been going for 6 months now. In all that time none of my snails have ever laid any eggs but since adding these to my tank they have laid clutches and have started breeding. I think this help relax them.Delete we're all-in-one piece and I didn't receive any broken ones. They look clean and free from any type of pests or residues. The same goes for the cones. The only thing that bothers me is that the leaves and the cones float. Some of the cones have sunk to the bottom of the aquarium but some are still floating, days after adding them. I'm having to hold the leaves down with some gravel. I think this is probably typical and I probably should have soaked them before adding them so it's no fault of theirs. This is a great deal for the price you pay as well and I highly recommend them!

Tannins
Did a great job adding tannins to the water, however the alder cones had a negative chemical reaction to something in Flourish Excel that turned the water solid black and killed my snails and shrimp. So be cautious using in planter tanks if using liquid ferts.

Alder Cones are tiny
The Alder Cones are extremely small and often get sucked up into my syphon when I was cleaning the tank. I've since removed them. The leaves are great if you're going for the black water look. Personally, I've found it's cheaper and more efficient to use Peat Moss in my sump.
