Modern Table Complete Protein Lentil Pasta, Variety Pack, Contains (2) Rotini, (2) Penne, (1) Elbows, (1) Spirals, 8oz, 6 Count, Gluten Free, No Artificial Preservatives

We’ve bought this several times and were amazed how well it substituted for traditional wheat pasta. The taste and texture were excellent.But this latest purchase came with new packaging, including a new banner on the front that said “made with lentils, rice and peas.” I’m not sure whether they changed their formula or just are more honest with the package. But for someone like me that can’t eat wheat OR rice, this is a disappointing revelation. It’s still fine for those with gluten sensitivity. Another lesson in why you need to read the ingredient label carefully.

I have purchased Lentil Pasta elsewhere and LOVED IT. Trying this elbow pasta was a very different experience. Cooking the pasta smelled like burned rubber. It was a nauseating smell. I rinsed the pasta after cooking, and added plenty of sauce to cover up the taste and smell. The burned rubber taste was overwhelming and I threw the rest out. Another customer mentioned the strong taste too. I will be purchasing my Lentil Pasta elsewhere. Their ingredients are only Red Lentils. Nothing else.

This pasta is fantastic for so many reasons. First of all, it's delicious. It replaces wheat pasta in any meal from penne with tomato sauce to elbows in cheese sauce to mac and cheese. Second, it's vegan, gluten-free, and soy-free, so I can serve it to my friends with food sensitivities and make every one happy. Finally, it's loaded with complete protein! There's so much protein in the pasta, that it doesn't even need protein added. We just add sauce and veggies and it's a complete meal!

My trick is boil in broth and then give them a rinse then add a bit of oil, butter or sauce. I'd never do this with regular noodles but these can be sticky and this makes them perfect every time.

I didn't realize until after I bought these that they have pea protien in them and aren't pure lentil. I usually HATE pea protien but times are tough and who returns pasta anyways. Wow was I impressed!!! Lentil pasta already has a nice texture, the pea protien seemed to add a kind of chewiness I haven't experimented in gluten free pasta choices before. It has a slightly unami flavor that is delightful with bright, savory dishes like red sauce or cold pasta salad. I haven't tried it with a cream based sauce but I think a very sharp cheddar could stand up to and compliment the faint pea powder taste. I reccomend for people looking to curb carbs, increase protien, or just not need to deal with finding a protien when you just want to eat a huge bowl of pasta salad without feeling gross afterwards. So delicious, I will buy again!

I’ve used one box and it tasted fine however I just received them on October 4th, 2019 and half the boxes say “Enjoy by November 28, 2019” and the other half say “Enjoy by January 14, 2020”. So plan to eat them quickly if you’re one who obeys expiration dates.

Since a family member developed gluten sensitivity I've been on the hunt for gluten-free products that have texture and flavor similar to what we are used to having. That's been hard to find! The Modern Table pastas have been the best so far. Of this variety pack the rotini was the most popular, but I think the penne got just a tad overcooked, which made them too soft. I'll buy these again and try more of their products.

When following the cooking instruction for the 3rd time, and pouring off the water, I was left with a medium to a large clump of pasta. However, it still tastes like pasta. After chopping up the blob and placing it with a pot of well-seasoned garbanzo beans, believe it or not, the taste was delicious. I will not repurchase this pasta, because I do want my pasta to turn out in a big blob.
