Region "1" for DVD's, includes Canada, United States and US territories. So yes it is "NOT" REGION FREE, region free is labeled "ABC" for Blu Rays.

So can this really plays 4k movies

Yes it can play 4K movies. But, you will only see them as 4K if your TV is 4K or higher. If you TV is HD only then you will see the movie in HD only. If you movie is not 4K you will not see it in 4K no matter what TV you have.
