OEM gas cap permanently fix the problem of warning lights and 4x4 issues. China aftermarket parts did not work. (2005 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 Limited V6)

This Fuel Tank cap worked perfect for my 2003 Toyota 4Runner but not without a hiccup. I too had the engine light and VSS warning lights come on the dash. The first thing I tried was to tighten the existing gas cap and reset the dash lights. This did not work. Next, I decided to purchase a new gas cap. I used the Part Fit checker found at the top of this page to determine the gas cap to purchase. The Part Fit checker gave me a wrong part number which I ordered and sent back.Here is what I discovered about Toyota gas caps. Essentially there are two types. 1) the one shown here which has tabs on the side of the cap and 2) A cap that is threaded (Genuine Toyota (77300-06040) Fuel Tank Cap Assembly) . There may be more types than this but I have two different Toyota cars and each have a different cap.BEFORE YOU ORDER, CHECK YOUR GAS CAP TO SEE WHAT YOUR CAR ACTUALLY HAS AND ORDER BASED ON THAT AND NOT THE PART FINDER.The second cap I received (77300-47010) was good quality and fit perfect. I installed the cap and drove about 20 miles but the dash warning lights did not go out. I then removed the positive terminal from the battery for about 1 minute, reconnected and then started the car. The lights were out and problem solved.I have a second Toyota vehicle and it has the screwed thread cap.

Car is throwing p0441 & p0455I did not know Toyota had problems on the old style gas caps(77300-33070) & made a new style one(77300-47010). I've gone through 2 old style gas caps within 3 or 4 years of owning the vehicle. This time I have bought the new style cap and it actually feels like it locks in place unlike the old style gas cap that when you twist it to close and clicks, it just seems like its real loose,not grabbing and seems like it just untwists on it's own. I've installed the cap today & will wait to see if the cel goes off on it's own instead of clearing it. Will update if that was the issue on my case.Update: it was the purge valve in the engine next to the intake.

Had multiple evap codes and couldn't pass the smog check... got this, I'm all good. Now able to register my car. Thank you.

Not quite identical to the original gas cap from 2003, it IS the Genuine Toyota branded replacement. It was very easy to install and fit perfectly. Most importantly, it solved the problem causing my repetitive P0442 diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for "Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Small Leak)"! It even cost $10 less than buying the same part in person from my local dealership. I'm again a happy 2003 4Runner owner!

Paid a little more than the off brand but no worries how long it will last or if the fitment will be right. Don’t know if original 17 yr old gas cap was bad but mechanic friend advised to change this 1st before spending money on catalytic converter for check engine code, so far code hasn’t come back on, so it may have saved me a ton of money.

The original had tank cap for wife's minivan (2006 Sienna) was not tightening as it should do I had replaced it with a non OEM from stop part store. I used to get check engine light all the time. I replaced it with this OEM cap and ask the error choose had disappeared. The cap guys perfectly.
