Perfect book for mid level art followers
One of the better books on art available in the market. Has potential to be the best book, except it falls short in few cons.Pros1) Quantity does make a difference in art. Over 600 pages of colour images are amazing. Much more than taschen and phaidon books on art.2) It covers the width of art history pretty well. Starting from pre history upto contemporary works.3) Explanation given for paintings are really good. Typical art books talk about history of artist rather than explaining the art. This book does a great job in explaining art.Cons1) Print size and print quality are bad. You see pixels of printing in some pages. Didnt expect this from DK. This is where Taschen leads the rooster.2) The book is super heavy and has glossy pages, causing reflection. Very hard to read in any form of light. Binding is just decent. Could have been better.3) Except the main author, sub authors lack crediblity. Many topics have loose amateurish text. Cannot match professional writing of taschen or phaidon.ConclusionIt seems like an amateur book for freshers, but actually a good book for mid level art enthusiasts and pro artists. Some parts are fantastic, but some parts that try to address amateurs fails. Dk ahould target the book for mid level art ppl and increase the writing and print quality. There are several other books for freshers and professionals anyway!!!

Art History
It’s a gigantic book. I mean it, the book arrived was a little torn so I had to return it, but if you are a art history lover you might want to have just this one book. It very descriptive of artists and their paintings, other works like sculptures etc, also it’s very EURO CENTRIC you might not find much of Asian work, just a page or two in this 600 something book.

Excellent anthology of art history for self-study, studio reference, or as a companion to a course
What I like about all DK education books is their just-right blend of images and text on each page presenting information in easily digestible chunks, clearly organised so that info is easy to find, and adroitly structured so the "journey" is clearly laid out, one topic building on the previous. The book itself is printed on high-quality paper, very appealing in both cover and throughout, and if it's not for studying or reference, then it would be a lovely coffee table book or gift for an art/history-lover.DK's Art: Definitive Visual Guide is organised from "The Beginning" of art (pre-history, eg cave paintings and mysterious artefacts) - through the 20th c. and ending with a glimpse at each continent's creative output "today" (up to end of 2017 at least). Thankfully, they do cover the world's other regions besides "Western" art with equal care. This book works for me because my learning style is highly-visual (as is about 75% of the population) and personally, I struggle to maintain concentration for long periods of time. The way this book is formatted, I can concentrate on one page or section without getting overwhelmed with info, or I can easily pick out and focus on one idea at a time.ps. I'm using this as a companion alongside an online art history course (smarthist**y.org), which It goes extremely well with Smarthist**y's similar format of videos, images, and text in short presentations of around 10-20 minutes each for each topic. My only complaint is that there's not a Kindle version so I can read on an iPad! It's bleedin' too HEAVY to carry around as something to make the commute more enjoyable. ;)
