Great show!
The DVD works as expected. Oddly I tried to rip it for playback on my fire TV, and it only rips the first episode.

ACIDLY, SATIRICALLY WITTY - GREAT FUN!
Please refer to my review of Season 2, but suffice to say this one of the most enjoyable British series I’ve seen. I enjoyed it when it first ran back on broadcast television, and I’m so glad it’s now available on DVD. The first two seasons are wonderful, as it revolves around the workings in the kitchen. But, the 3rd season tends to turn a little too much to the character’s domestic lives, which bores me to death. But, overall it's an acidly, satirically witty couple of hours. I now have a renewed respect for what goes on back, beyond the ”pass”.

Chef! - British Comedy At Its Very Best (Season One)
I was a big fan of this series will working overseas. I could access the BBC television feeds and enjoyed Chef!, Monty Python and another must see but little known series called "Allo Allo". I agree with many of the other reviews found here about the series, seasons one and two are superior, it is a shame that season three fall short. There was a major change, director, writers, some characters and the format of the production in mass doomed what was a great and witty series. I can recommend season one and two without question, but stay away from season three unless you need to see the contrasting decline.

Chef Season 1 is amazing - but don’t expect much from season 2
One of the best comedies from the UK - intelligent and funny. Don’t miss it! Season 1 is stellar yet season 2 misses the mark for me - but it’s best for you to decide!

Terrible
I purchased the Chef based on the reviews that I read. None of the reviews included "canned laughter" and had I known that, it would not have been a program I would have watched or a DVD that I would have bought. This is an AWFUL show! The actors are corny and in need of lessons, but if you enjoy a program with canned laughter, this is the show for you. We love the BBC shows and have many of them but this was a real dud.

and it is a show we love in our family
Hilarious! 'Chef' is a character, running a very exclusive restaurant, and he yells at his assistants constantly...he is arrogant and conceited, witty and inventive. The dialogue is so well written, and it is a show we love in our family....

I wish this show had more than three seasons!
This is the first season of "Chef", and introduces us to uppity chef de cuisine Gareth Blackstock and various people in his life, namely his wife, Janice (a brilliant and witty woman who knows how to handle her flighty husband),his kitchen staff at theupscale Chateau Anglais, and many others. Hilarious and worth watching over and over again.

the best scenes were cut out
I love the first season of this show and had purchased it years ago where there was a hilarious scene where Gareth goes to the farm to get the unpasteurised stilton in fear of the cheese police and then when the policeman pulls him over. I lent it to someone and never got it back so I purchased it again just recently. I don't know if the government got the BBC to censor those scenes because of their efforts to ban unpasteurised milk and cheese several years back or otherwise why these two scenes were deleted, but they are not here though the image you click on to get to the episode is actually from the deleted scenes and other scenes refer to the actions that were deleted in a way that is completely incongruous due to their absence. They really should have warned us that the episodes had been tampered with and were incomplete before sale.

Lenny Henry - Chef series one
Very funny show, and one that's dated well. A lot of Lenny Henry's lines sound uncannily similar to the kind of things Gordon Ramsay would say in his Boiling Point documentary 6 years later.Btw for the sake of context, I only very rarely laugh out loud at comedy, and episode one of this made me lol more than once.

And you thought Gordon Ramsey was bad tempered....
It has been quite a while since I saw Chef on TV, and I must admit it is still as funny as ever.I was rather upset by the removal of the scene from "The Big Cheese", as has been mentioned in an earlier review. Why this was edited out, I don't know. But without this scene, it makes the rest of the episode incomplete. The best part for me has to be the interaction between Chef and Everton. Everton's constant mistakes made this an unmissable comedy. (The episode with the elastoplast is a classic.)I wonder if Gordon Ramsey is a fan? I wouldn't be surprised......

Great fun, a series that not enough people have seen!
Though it does not seem to be recalled fondly like comedy classics such as The Office and Fawlty Towers (as another reviewer also mentioned), there are enough funny moments and great character acting to really make Chef! worth checking out. Lenny Henry's amusing one-liners and insults are worth the price of the disc alone!

gordon ramsay the original!!!
if you love 'hell's kitchen' then this is the ultimate fun for you. the difference is that this is fiction and noone is actually being hurt and abused by the egomaniacal chef blackstock. the humor and wit and frank honesty of this character as well as his interpersonal relationships make the show a sucess. a word or warning though - if you have trouble following fast and furious diatribes or really don't 'get' british humor, this may not be for you, but it is f-ing hilarious and any one who buys it having noted those two thoughts above, will giggle and snort their way through it.happy buying!
