MOUNTBATTEN
B**U
MAGNIFICENT MASTERPIECE [RATING: 5+++ STARS].
Meticulous craftsmanship: in-depth research, brilliant analyses, refined distillation, skillfully formatted, eloquent prose. NOT JUST A PRETTY FACE. As noted by naval superiors, "[a] procession of senior officers had paid tribute to his energy, his dedication, his flexibility of mind, his powers of leadership, his charm, his phenomenal memory, his determination" (p. 116). Exquisite writing -- artistry in composition. Mountbatten excelled in various distinguished appointments, including, Supreme Allied Commander of Southeast Asia, Viceroy and Governor-General of India, First Sea Lord, Admiral of the Fleet, Chief of the Defense Staff. (Additional information regarding his pivotal role in liberating Burma can be found in the book by James Holland entitled "Burma '44: The Battle That Turned Britain's War In The East.") Amongst the finest of biographies. Worthy of time, energies, expense.

This book would be good information for any person in the military
Complete and comprehensive biography of one of the outstanding military officersin history. Mountbatten achieved the top rank with a career in the British navy andother areas including the reorganization of India.This book would be good information for any person in the military, business or mostany area. Anyone following the practices of Mountbatten would improve their career.At 79 years of age, with all his life dedicated to his country, he was killed by the IrishRepublican Army with a bomb while in his personal boat off the coast of Ireland onvacation. What did the makers of the bomb and those which set it off accomplish?

Balanced and well written
As an authorized biography, the author apparently felt it necessary to include a great deal of detail, especially about Mountbatten's early life, which most readers can probably skip. Thus ends my only and mild criticism. The author provides a very balanced view of this fascinating man and writes in a manner that allows the reader to float comfortably from page to page. Mountbatten is one of scores, perhaps hundreds, of individuals playing major roles in WWII who history has largely forgotten (who remembers Admiral Leahy? or General Wingate?). But if you want a glimpse of his person and his roles, this book is a fine option.

Great biography on Mountbatten & the English history of WWII
This is a great, great historical biography on Mountbatten while also connecting the English history of World War II with the American history & their observations of our participation in the war effort. I love this book!

Fantastic book
I am so pleased with this book. Was quite a bit shocked when it did arrive at how heavy it is, did not realise how many pages this had. The price was fantastic for such a book. I have started reading this and so far so good, no idea how long it will take to read it all.
