The Apartment had always been on my list of classic movies to see, and during the pandemic, I finally did it. I should have known it was going to be a good film, as it's a Billy Wilder piece (Sunset Boulevard, Some Like It Hot, etc.). But I was totally blown away by just how good it was. Since March 2020, I've watched it at least six times, and I'll watch it again soon. Great story. Great writing. Great actors. Great cinematography. Great musical score. It's all there. See it!

The Arrow Academy blu-ray of The Apartment is one of my favorite purchases I've made while building my video library. Great picture quality and sound, spiffy packaging. The film is one of the best from era; Jack Lemmon and Shirley McClaine are a great duo. The romantic element is impressive, more realistic and human than most romantic comedies I have seen. Intricate plot and subtlety subversive themes that are still relevant as ever. Top recommendation.

This 4K Blu-ray edition, seen on an HD flat panel TV, is beautifully clear and sharp. Although some might consider the story line and sequence of events depressing, I was pulled in and found both Jack Lemmon's and Shirley MacLaine's roles intense and touching. Jack Lemmon's humor shines through in every scene, and for me it was a delightful experience to watch, not having seen the movie for many decades. Billy Wilder and Jack Lemmon took on this project immediately following the success of Some Like It Hot. Fun fact: the cover insert for this disc as shown here on Amazon is artistic, but is also reversible for a more playful and retro cover for those of us into the period in which the movie was released.

A brilliant, timeless winner of 5 Academy Awards in 1960, including Best Picture and Best Screenplay. A movie so masterfully created you will forget that it is black and white, until you realize it's black and white and don't mind.It feels that it was the original dramedy/romcom. With an all-star cast who went on for years headlining in their own movies or TV shows.ENJOY!

The video is re-scanned 4k so you just know that the B&W picture quality will be above average. Jack Lemmon turns in a superb performance; the audio quality is just average. 7 out of 10 for this one.

Where Some Like it Hot is a classic comedy farce The Apartment is a drama with dark comedy elements throughout. The Late Jack Lemmon always referred to The Apartment as Billy Wilder's 'Rose in a Garbage Pail'. Wilder & I.A.L. (Izzy) Diamond wrote this script as a scathing commentary exposing the dark underbelly of the corporate business world circa 1960, that still exists in the 21st Century. That said, the performances of Lemmon, Maclaine & MacMurray make this a movie to watch again & again.

I'm a big fan of this company, and their treatment of this Academy Award winning film was above and beyond their usual excellent standards.Great transfer, the package art is wonderful and packed with extras. Oh yeah, and it's a great film on top of all that, so an all around win. I would rate Arrow titles as highly as I would Criterion Collection releases.

Dies spricht sich schnell rum und so muss er bald einen Terminkalender führen um noch die Übersicht zu behalten wer wann in seinem Appartement seine Frau betrügen will. Alles für den Aufstieg in der Firma.Verliebt ist Baxter heimlich in die Fahrstuhlführerin Fran. Nun hat sein oberster Chef Wind von der Sache bekommen und verspricht ihm den Stellvertreter Posten wenn auch er sein Appartement nutzen kann. Jedoch stellt sich heraus das sich sein Chef mit Fran trifft mit der er schon länger ein Verhältnis hat. Daraufhin ist Baxter schwer getroffen und betrinkt sich in einer Bar. Fran ist nicht die einzige Dame in der Firma mit der der Chef schonmal auf Tuchfühlung gegangen ist. Dies erzählt die Sekretärin und Ex-Geliebte des Chefs Fran. Als Baxter in Begleitung einer ebenfalls unglücklich und betrunkenen Dame in sein Appartement zurück kehrt findet er Fran die versucht hat sich mit Tabletten das Leben zu nehmen, weil sie realisiert das sich ihr Geliebter sowieso nicht von seiner Frau trennen wird und sie nur ein Spielzeug für ihn ist.Baxter rettet Fran mit Hilfe seines Nachbarn und Arzt Dr. Dreyfuss.Als sein Chef wieder nach dem Schlüssel verlangt verwährt er ihm diesen und nimmt statt dessen seinen Hut.Baxter packt in seinem Appartement seine Sachen und will wegziehen. Da kommt Fran vorbei. Ob sich die beiden kiregen? Schaut selber rein ;)

An academy award-winning satire in monochrome which could be relevant to today's Me-Too movement. Shirley McLean, Jack Lemmon and Fred MacMurray star. Great nostalgia for those over 60, or for youngsters who want to glimpse the world of Mad Men through a contemporary Hollywood lens.
