I enjoy this series and all its assorted characters
The last thing Alison Kerby expected was to receive a text from Detective Lieutenant Anita McElone asking for her help. Help in the ghost sense, because it seems that her ex-partner is dead, listed as a suicide. But Anita doesn't believe it was suicide and asks Alison to come to his apartment where he was found dead and see if she senses anything. Thus begins Alison's next case as a private detective, all the more complicated by the fact that a few days later, Anita's husband comes to her and says she is missing. Can Alison solve this case or will she be the next missing person? I enjoy this series and all its assorted characters, especially the resident house ghosts Maxie and Paul. This had a totally unanticipated twist or two in the mystery, which I appreciated. And for me, a life-time Jersey resident, I love reading about towns and establishments that I can related to. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Delightfully engaging
I enjoy the camaraderie between the living and the ghosts and if it wasnโt for the ghost-like behavior, sometimes the ghosts feel like the living, especially in their actions. This was an enjoyable read and I liked in this light drama we had more insight into the person Lt. McElone is out of uniform. But best of all is the outcome of their association that is a bonus in this fast-paced whodunit. The plot of this mystery kept me engaged in all that was happening and the suspenseful nature propelled me towards a conclusion befitting all the characters. Boasting a great cast of characters, witty repartee and the backdrop of the NJ shore, this is a delightfully wonderful read and I look forward to more adventures with Alison and the gang.

Very Enjoyable!
These books are so much fun. Many of the characters are ghosts, but they are no different from you and me except, of course, for the whole being dead thing. In this installment Lieutenant McElone asks Allison for help in solving the murder of her former partner, Maxie has a secret, Paul develops amazing new powers, Josh and Allison's relationship develops and Allison has her hands full with a house full of guests, one police officer who is dead and another who is missing, and several menacing members of the mob, both dead and alive. If you haven't yet sampled this series, do yourself a favor and start with the first book "Night of the Living Deed". Part of what I enjoy about this series is watching the characters develop and grow.

Who's afraid of ghosts?
If you like mobsters, cranky cops, detectives that arenโt really fond of you and are afraid of ghosts as well as ghosts, this book is for you.E.J. Copperman spins a tale that has two ghosts, one a private eye and one a diva living in a guest house run by Alison Kerby. Along with her daughter, Melissa and her parents, one of whom is dead, Alison tries to find the killer of Lieutenant Anita McElone, previous partners. When it looks like her ex partner is a dirty cop, Alison turns to her two ghost friends Paul, the private eye and Maxie for help. This sixth book in the series is a great read as are the other five. I enjoy this series and am looking forward to the next one.

Love The Series!
I am no spring chicken, but I love the series. This is one of the most enjoyable series about ghosts that I have read. Let me tell you, that I have read ghosts stories for more years than I care to admit and this is the best. Story about a single mother who owns a bed and breakfast inn that also is inhabited by two ghosts. The ghosts are funny, obnoxious sometimes, but they keep the story going and the storyline keeps your attention! Actually, the funniest part in this book is Oliver, the baby that Allison is kinda forced to babysit. I hope that there are more adventures with this definitely dysfunctional, but loving characters!! Highly Recommended!!!N

Save your money and time and don't buy this book
This latest entry in a series I've really tried to like is the last on which I'll waste time and money. The premise of a haunted guesthouse is interesting, but I can't figure out why anyone would want to stay in a place run by such a completely uninvolved hostess who seems much more interested in stripping paint from walls than in running a hospitality business. The main character is not a very nice, likeable, or interesting person -- her most compelling trait is her ability to see ghosts, and that she came by inadvertently after being hit in the head by a paint bucket in book one of the series. Neither of the two ghosts haunting her guesthouse are particularly likeable, either, and I feel truly sorry for the hostess' daughter, who seems to be the smartest, kindest, and most with-it character in the bunch. One can only hope she'll escape to a good out-of-state college far from her mother as soon as possible. I also feel sorry for the protagonist's boyfriend, who inexplicably keeps coming back for more poor treatment from his chilly inamorata. Their relationship is hard to fathom -- I suspect the awkwardness that exists between them comes from the male author's trying to write from a woman's perspective, and not doing a good job of it.By the time this ponderously-written book finally ended (with the plot tied up hastily and confusedly in the last couple of pages) I had lost track of who did what or why, and didn't much care. I can understand a book being a snoozer, but the one-dimensional characters annoy me so much along the way that I'm giving up on this series. Read at peril of your good temper.

A wonderful mix of human and haunt
I read this book in a few sittings. It was wonderful. Sort of a Topper meets Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I can't believe it took me this long to find this series. Yes, there is lots of ghost/human interaction, but the writer is so skilled that it's believable! The story takes place at the Jersey shore a few years after Hurricane Sandy devastated the area so there are lots of references to that. Really a delightful read.

Loved it!
The Haunted Gatehouse Mysteries are consistently excellent! This mystery held my interest throughout the whole book, not because the mystery was so hard to figure out but because ALL the characters were so well portrayed. I really felt like I was there looking in...sort of like a ghost!
