So far so good.
I’ve had it for about a month and so far so good!

Perhaps I got a faulty one...
I chose this case because I needed an affordable option for (occasionally) carting my 4/4 violin and 16-in viola around at the same time. I didn't need bells or whistles, and I was on a budget, and this looked like just the thing.Design-wise, it really *is* just the thing for short-term use (although it's worth noting that the case I received does *not* look precisely like the one in the photo -- the interior is reversed, with the storage compartment on the right/toward the front and the viola arranged in the back/on the hinge side). Both instruments fit perfectly (with appropriate use of the provided padding to keep things snug and safe). There's room for four bows (although I can't put one of my longer spare viola bows in there -- it won't fit) and a useful string tube. The in-case storage isn't bad -- it will fit rosin, wipe cloth, mutes, assorted strings and small bits and pieces and one shoulder rest for a violin or a smaller viola. I had to put my viola shoulder-rest in the outside pocket. The build is sturdy enough to provide decent protection, but it's not so heavy that carrying it around is a horrible burden. That said, the quality of the construction of the case was, in this instance at least, rather poor. The clip on the shoulder strap broke within an hour of first use. The snaps on the flap were so strongly fastened that trying to open them resulted in their coming unanchored from the body of the case (very sharp screws pulled right out of the wood). The zippers are functional, but I can already see that they're going to give me trouble with long-term use (especially around the bottom/hinge-side corners). The lock is slightly misaligned, so it's sometimes tricky to get the case closed properly.Given the low price and the hassle it would be to return the item, I decided to keep it and repair as needed (and as possible); I don't use this case for everyday transport, and I have individual cases for my instruments that protect better and are in better shape if that's what I need. Just the same, I don't think that keeping it is all that bad a bargain -- it will do what I need it to do. If you are looking for a very basic double case for occasional use, this is fine. If you're looking for a really GOOD double case for regular use, prepare to shell out a lot more money.

This is junk. It's going back.
This violin/viola case is absolute junk. Just took it out of the box, latch broke off. Opened it, clock broke off. There is NOT ample room for chin rests! Only room for one TINY chin rest. It's going back to Amazon tomorrow!!
