Shakespeare Made Easier...
Classical Comics has published a selection of the Shakespeare plays as graphic novels, of which this is the tragedy of "Macbeth." The graphic novels come in two versions per title: one has the original text; the other offers a modern language version of the same story."Macbeth" dramatizes the dynastic wars of eleventh century Scotland, where the real life Macbeth was briefly king. In Shakespeare's take, the loyal warrier Macbeth is tempted by a witche's prophecy and by the ruthless ambition of his wife to murder Duncan, the reigning King of Scotland, and seize the throne. The rest of the story of the slow closing of the ring of fate on the brave but tragically twisted Macbeth, a tale punctuated by violence, madness, and witchcraft. The graphic novel is a great way to introduce the reluctant modern young student to classics such as Shakespeare's plays, in a format likely to hold his or her attention. These graphic novels containt the entire play; there is no abridgement. The artwork in "Macbeth" is average, but the overall delivery is good and highly recommended as an introduction to the possibilities of Shakespearean drama.

Shakespearian Graphic Novel
True to the nameI think that this is hands down the best way to read a play. However, I think live plays are still better, I saw the Tempest at my school when I was but a young pup and that was pretty good. You get some obvious facial expressions that cue the reading into what's going on, which with the cryptic and archaic iambic pentameter almost seems necessary. I think that the whole of exactly what is in O'l Will's work is in here with "no" exclusions. Still without the aid of some sparknotes, an English Lit nerd, or some other resource it's a rough read. The artwork and color are of a good comic book quality, the expressions favor facial expressions above reality and the shading it a little over the top, but hey I prefer this to more realistic looking people since real people are much more difficult to read.So yeah five stars wonderful idea, I think I'll pick up some more a bit later on.

good but difficult to decipher
like the art and the old english however... if you read it you have to flip it cover wise upside down and back wards a little annoying and it makes you look like a dweebvery difficult without an understanding of old english however would recommend to school students and classic fiction readers as well as people who want a laf at the original of english language

Brilliantly Useful
Macbeth was the Shakespeare tragedy we read last year during senior year. Because I absolutely love English, I signed up for a co-enrolled class, which means I got dual credit for college and high school and the class was taught by a college professor. She was actually the one who recommended this and it was amazingly helpful. Some people may judge it because they can't appreciate a graphic novel but when you're being tested over a work of Shakespeare, it is truly helpful to have a visual to remember. I know that when we had to remember the different visions that came to Macbeth, they were far easier to remember when I could just think back to the depictions and the order they had appeared in. I'd recommend this for any student who will be tested over the material or just someone wishing to having a better understanding of a Shakespeare tragedy.

Get kids into Shakespeare
I bought this on a whim. I was looking to purchase the Polanski movie version of Macbeth to play for my high school students. I bought the graphic novel and brought it into the classroom. And yes, I bought the Shakespearean English version, despite other versions being available. I brought it into my classroom, and left it on my desk. Next thing I know, it was being passes around the room. Students were actively engaged and reading the play in ways they had not before. Some were commenting on the artistry and discussing how they would have drawn it differently. Some were reading the play for the first time. The graphic novel format which so many students are familiar with took away the fear of Shakespearean English. All in all I wish I had a full class set.

a great way to interest your kids in Macbeth!
I am pleased with my purchase. The pictures are rich, colorful, and full of detail. The book succeeds in portraying Macbeth in a simplistic way, for a reader who is not yet familiar with any plays by Shakespeare and/ or too young to understand the original text without pictures. The beginning of the book shows the pictures of the different characters involved in the story. After the end of the story, there are additional historical descriptions, details of theater, and even how the pictures for the graphic novel are made. I bought this book to introduce my boys (ages 10, 12, & 14) to Shakespeare. After they are comfortable with the story, I will transition them to the original text. My book was shipped and sold by Amazon. The book was new, as described, and arrived in perfect condition.

the sticking place
As a high school English tutor, I am always looking for ways to make Shakespeare more exciting for my students. The graphic novel format, and this version in particular, is a super way to bring Macbeth to life, with all its guts, blood, betrayal, and witchery. My high school senior student loved the excellent illustrations, and they really helped him understand the language. This is not a "dumbed down" version of Shakespeare at all; this is the original text, and the graphics make it much easier to understand and absorb. Even if you're not an educator, get this graphic novel and be prepared to really appreciate one of the masterful tragedies in the canon.
