Super Watch if you like negative display.
I already have a number of g-shocks and this is the best yet. Minimal in design with no superfluous lettering, but contains a high tech module. It works well with the G-Shock connected app, updating time every 6 hours if in bluetooth range of smartphone (the app does not have to be open, the watch connects automatically). It can also be used without the app, synchronising time with the UK atomic clock overnight. However a big advantage of using the app is the ability to set up watch functions, thereby minimising button pushing on the watch. The buttons are quite small, though easily operable with a fingernail.A big plus for me is the option of selecting the UK date format (day-month-year in place of the confusing USA month-day-year).The marmite question is the negative display. You either love it or loathe it! In good light it is very legible, but this becomes problematic in low light. This is somewhat mitigated by an excellent blue backlight which can be set to auto. The strap is surprisingly good. I normally prefer a rubber strap, but this composite one looks really well, is very light and, by using springbars to connect the links, is fairly easy to adjust (a springbar tool is advisable but can be done without one by pushing the end of the springbars through the holes provided). Finally, the watch is quite compact (unlike some big g-shocks) and sits well on the wrist.

Excellent watch...
I own a Cartier Tank and a Rolex Submariner. Beautiful watches, but would I go camping with them? No. Would I go swimming in the sea with them? No, not even the Submariner. Would I go rock climbing with them? No.This stealth version of the classic 5600 is an awesome watch. Built like a tank. Solar powered so no batteries or winding to worry about, atomic time so no adjusting. Yes, it's difficult to read in some lighting but I bought this watch for it's stealthy attributes. I've only had it a couple of weeks and have had quite a few comments on how nice it looks. Some reviews criticise the negative display. Well, all I can say is... why did you buy it in the first place? Look at the pictures before purchasing! Anyway, if you can't read it, press the light button (which is a lovely shade of blue by the way) and all will be revealed. This is a beast of a watch with a very comfy strap.Fit and forget.... highly recommended

A great watch elevated by the bracelet
I'd highly recommend this one. The watch itself has all the features you'd want from a G-Shock in the very reasonably sized case - robust, solar, WR 200m, multi-band 6, bluetooth. All of these are genuinely useful features - e.g. bluetooth is super useful once you have it, and until you have it you don't realise what you're missing! The watch is elevated to a new level by the composite bracelet. It's just so comfortable to wear. I've never particularly liked G-Shock straps and after this I wouldn't buy another G-Shock on a strap, the bracelet is certainly the way to go.

A great update to a classic
As a long time fan of g shocks and specifically the classic square design, this is a winner.Yes the negative display isn't as easy as the positive display to read... But it looks very cool, so who cares. The back-light helps anyway. The Bluetooth functions are useful for setup. Can't see myself using the reminders or GPS position marking but you never know. The strap is the star for me here, and it's why I've got the watch. The resin and metal links are very comfy, very easy to adjust and looks great. This will no doubt be my daily driver for some time.

Gorgeous watch
Absolutely gorgeous, the matte black finish is exquisite and the black LCD with blue led is really cool. Its also super easy to change the lugs, no issue at all.Im a little concerned about scratches though since the matte black could easily get scratched, however, being a gshock its tough!! and so far not a single scratch although i am super careful. Its also not very big so it should look good on pretty much any wrist size.Overall, just super cool and offers excellent functionality. Oh also, connecting to the mobile app is super easy :)

Flawed by solar in the UK
Great in UK summer but useless in winter even when left in a window for a week - it flashes low power and therefore the backlight doesn't work. This combined with dark mornings/evenings and an inverted LCD, waste of time I'm afraid. Oddly, I had a larger G - Shock with alt, baro and other more draining functions some years ago, it too was solar and never had an issue. A big let down for Casio/ G Shock and not cheap

This understated G-Shock may just turn out to be one of the best
OK, I'll get the contentious issue out of the way to start with. This watch has a negative display, it will not be as readable at the same angles as the watches positive display sisters, but in the good light at the right angle it just looks really stunning. This watch has the more subdued face of the 5600 series and a composite watch band comprising of resin and metal inter links. Once the band is sized it is pretty comfortable although not quite as comfortable of the full resin bands possibly due to the lug links that splay from the case body are not as flexible. I do not have big wrists and it's OK, for very small wrists this might be a consideration. Standard resin bands are available online though. The watch works flawlessly with the Casio connected app where you can set reminders and select/swap time zones and location. In conclusion, a cracking G-Shock that only looses a star due to the low light readability (the back light is very good though) and although the band is fine for me it could be an issue for smaller wrists.
