a different set of skills...
IMHO, Can Evrenol's movies so far emerge as the most original visions in the horror genre this side of the 21st Century. In a time and a space all its own, which is not ours or even most conventional fiction's past, present nor future, Evrenol crisply materializes the idea that everyone's worst nightmare and, therefore, wildest, most cherished dream is... their own! Some might say this is, essentially, a "sequel" to Baskin (2015), or the same idea, only with a bigger scope and bucks, -since his debut feature film spawned from a short student film of sorts-. However, Evrenol goes beyond the richly textured art direction from his previous film and presents us with a literally more illuminated product, with breathtaking angles and camera movements but, most of all, thinly, sharply and dynamically edited sequences: a more "cinematic" experience overall, so to speak. For those of you who, like me, appreciate Lucio Fulci's Gates of Hell trilogy (especially, The Beyond) and are crazy enough to consider Shock one of Mario Bava's most accomplished masterpieces, there are plenty of more than welcome quotes to those (at least in my case). The main point of negative criticism for this movie is non- native speakers saying their lines in English. I utterly fail to see what's wrong with that, since this one is rather built upon visual cues than wisecracks or overwhelmingly philosophical dialogue, like your regular Tarantino or Von Trier. I say it really takes something to make a movie from a handful of images such as an umbrella, a toilet bowl, a staircase and female underwear. I'll have an 30 pack of those Cans of mind- impairing drinks, high in Evrenol content! Make no mistake: Can, not can't!

18+ movie, not recommend, boring, silly ending
Spoiled alert 🚨!!! Save your time a choose another movie. Well, this movie is about a fiction demon. The beginning of the movie is about a mom killing her oldest daughter and her husband. The middle of the movie is about the life and dreams of the daughter who wasn’t killed and already grows up and married. The middle of the movie is so weird. This movie is not for children because of some sexual scenes. The end of the movie explains why they got so many tragic things.. but it was not a happy ending, I must tell you that the ending is really silly and stupid! She gave birth to a demon baby and the demon from the sky came to take to baby. That’s it! Just a waste of time.

Silly mess, in more ways than one.
Evrenol's /Baskin/ was among the most inventive and interesting horror films I've seen in the last decade. I went into this awaiting something similarly creepy and weird--but that never came (pun intended). The sexism of /Baskin/--my biggest complaint about it--remains, just amped up a lot more with dumb hetero fantasy clichés (oh, start with some sex, throw in a masturbation scene and some lesbianism, then threesome, etc.). The cliché of jump cuts made with the soundtrack is overdone for the first 40 minutes. The climax of the film seems to be where most of the budget was blown, but it was too misogynistic for my taste. The general "story" could have worked, it's interesting and never comes together and not developed in favor of focusing on how to get nudity and a hot shirtless cult leader in there. It definitely feels like the ending was written first. Finally, of this is wrapped up in music utilizing synthesized strings--cheesy and I don't think deliberately (regardless, it doesn't work). Low-budget doesn't have to be bad, which the filmmaker's first film demonstrates so well. Just seems like a bigger budget made things worse. Fans of art film horror or his first film may enjoy, but everyone else might want to spend 1.5 hours watching something else.

Stellar potential
Crossing boundaries and doing really weird stuff needs to be earned. Otherwise it's just like watching Saw or something stupid like that. When the director comes of age and writes a cohesive plot that refocuses from the long, adolescent BDSM-type scenes in favor of more subtle and intelligent horror that works with a point, he'll become great. Keep the ambiance, mystery, music, and clever settings and casting, but right now that's all working just in favor of a cheap B-movie sex/blood thrill. A movie like this should keep us thinking long after it's over... right now, it's like someone sat around and came up with the most messed up stuff possible and then wrote a plot around it.

Slow but it was actually worth it
????????!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!😲😲😵😵😴😴😳😳😳😳😳😳. That sums up that movie. Did not expect it to go the way it did. It literally went off the super ultra deep end. Slow burn of a movie, the middle dragged, but that last part was crazy I mean it the very definition of escalating quickly. It was almost worth it just for that last bit at the end. However that first half is kinda hard to sit through because its such a slow burn of a plot.

hated it
Story wasnt interesting, acting sucked and there isnt one character in the film likable enough to cheer for. Add in some weird edits and scenes that felt pointless and the film becomes a chore to watch. The only aspect I liked was Cthulhu at end. Not enough to better rate this film though

Had a Interesting Start..
I'm a huge horror fan, and this movie sounded like it could be interesting...but I was sadly disappointed. So the films start with the crazy mom killing her oldest daughter when she came of age, there being a hint that she was obsessively worshiping a family painting, and her youngest daughter happens to see it, and thus the mom now has to kill her and etc. The kid escapes after dad comes home, getting murdered by mom, and his corpse falling on her, and thus kept her from getting to her daughter, and thus kid escapes to grow up into a meek, nervous woman.More or less, it seemed like it had something going for it, kinda...? but the plot is REALLY vague and does a poor job of holding your interest. The cult leader with his telepathic powers thing going on could of been a great addition to the story, but it sadly fell short. The scenes with unnecessary sexual encounters also did nothing good for the film either, it just made me skip forward to the next relevant part.Don't recommend this if you enjoy movies with an good solid plot, and can count as an actual horror movie.

A movie with a Lovecraft vibe
As a fan of the work of H.P. Lovecraft the cover art for this movie caught my eye. I watched this movie on prime video and enjoyed it so much I bought a hard copy. This is a movie you have to pay attention to because the story starts to move fast and you can get lost. This is an foreign film And you can see that in a lot of places but if you like Lovecraft this is a good movie for you.
