No Problems
Works great--overpriced for what it is, but with that's to be expected for any proprietary connections like this.As others have said below, make sure you realize that this is an RS-232 serial port cable, which is not included on a lot of laptops these days.

Cable
Authentic Garmin Cable. What can I say... It works. I use this to download GPX files onto a couple of older Garmin GPS's that I own.

Now I've got it what do I do?
The Cable arrived in a box, no instruction sheet! I purchased it to add waypoints to my Garmin eTrex H, GPS. I had worn out the switches, manually adding waypoints, in my first eTrex H & had to return it under warranty. I phoned Garmin Customer Service for help in using the cable, they told me, in order to use it to add waypoints from my computer, I needed additional software supplied by others. I downloaded "EasyGPS" necessary to load the waypoints & "iTouch Map" to determine their Latitude & Longitude.Once I understood the process it worked well. I use the GPS as a navigation aid on my boat. In the fog it beats a compass. I plan on using the GPS on Lake Powell next Spring to locate waypoints, I've already loaded, such as the location of Historic Ruins, Side Canyons, etc.I strongly suggest that Garmin add an Instruction Sheet with this product.

I'd give Garmin a better score if they'd have stuck with a non-proprietary RS-232 ...
This cable works though it was quite expensive. Get one while you can - I have never seen this particular connector anywhere else in my life.I'd give Garmin a better score if they'd have stuck with a non-proprietary RS-232 interface.

Does the job
Works for the original Garmin eTrex. I use MapSource (a program from the internet) to download waypoints to my computer in the form of a .gpm file. Then I convert that file to a .klm file using GPS Babel (gpsvisualizer.com) so I can open it in Google Earth and see the waypoints on the map.

All is lost.
Returned it, Would not communicate with the Garmin Etrex vista. Garmin has discontinued all support for the etrex vista original series so this cable is basically useless now. Thanks for nothing Garmin.
