Wonderful flashlight!
This is the best flashlight! I bought myself one several years ago and it works great - have never had to put in a new battery. I keep it on my windowsill so it is always charging. I like mine so much that I bought one for a friend who was endlessly putting new batteries in the small flashlight she was using which was such a waste of money. She loves her new one now, too.

Almost Perfect!!!
First off, I took off one star because I'd prefer a more common backup battery like a AA or AAA battery instead of this obscure CR2032 lithium pill battery. Seriously, who has those sitting around?!Anyway, everything else is perfect! The size, weight, look, and especially the brightness of the solar light (the backup battery is actually dimmer). See the picture included for an example of the light in pitch black conditions. It's actually better than the pic, since the iPhone can only do so much when photographing at night). It even has an adjustable lanyard, and the lanyard's base has a secondary loop that could be used if the tether should break. Solid build! The silicone buttcap and head are notched, allowing the flashlight to rest securely angled towards a light source for charging (even if that wasn't the original intent). All in all, for under $10, this light is a must-have flashlight! I'd pay up to $20 for this light (no higher, though).Edit:It seems this light performs poorly when exposed to below freezing conditions (such as night in a Chicagoland winter) for over 30 minutes. It may be that I didn't have it fully charged, so I'll try again after I'm certain the charge is full. I suspect if you do any winter activities, keep it warm in your coat as much as you can. Again, I'll be sure the charge is full and update with the new results.

its a bargain
Three years ago, I purchased 4 of these little solar lights for gifts and our own use. We keep 2 on the window sill to recharge. They are small but give off a great beam. My little grandkids love them too, they just fit their little hands. After '3' years without having to buy batteries, they are still working great. We decided to buy 2 more for gifts and personal use, but we could not find them in our local stores. We were thrilled to find them on Amazon and the price is lower than what we paid 3 years ago.

Excellent overall design. However LED not bright enough and one of two I have the LED starts to pulse and dim.
Very practical casework in a convenient size. Has a bezel that limits the amount of rolling around when you put it down... handy aboard boat. I have two of these presumably the same age that I use aboard my boat in S Pacific for routine nightly watchkeeping. In good sunlight they charge quickly and even on an overcast day are fully charged come evening.. seems they like a lot of UV (?). When turned on one of the two continues to show a useable light for the job at hand the other dims appreciably and appears to pulse. In terms of light output for routine inspection of boat during night watch keeping the survivor is still not quite bright enough whereas a conventional flashlight with exchangeable/conventional or exchangeable/rechargeable batteries and a halogen bulb is brighter and more dependable. Kind of sad as I was hoping to get away from having to go through the rechargeable dance each morning & evening and carry spare batteries and bulbs aboard. A better long life and slightly brighter LED in the same form factor would certainly be an excellent solution however the LED is not exchangeable... this flashlight is almost there but not quite. Hopefully the manufacturer will keep the excellent form factor and make the changes in choice of LED needed to provide a really dependable long life and brighter product. If they are listed as an upgraded product I would buy a couple.

AMAZING COMPANY, dead batteries! Buy another model.
I was so excited to finally find this flashlight after searching for over 7 years for a replacement for the same one that I had originally bought at Walmart. I bought three of these, and when they arrived I was disappointed to find that one didn't work at all from solar (wouldn't charge) and the other two were very dim (I remember my old one was much brighter). These have likely been sitting on a shelf somewhere for the last decade and the solar storage batteries have gone bad. HybridLight does not make this model of flashlight anymore. I called HybridLight and they immediately sent me replacements for all three flashlights as an upgraded newer product and a 50% off coupon for another item, so I bought their HEX bluetooth speaker. Super awesome customer service!

happy with it.
this flashlight is great, it charges by sencing any source of light.no regrets, I dont know how it would be a year from now, but so far it is good .I tried for a couple of weeks. it lights up red when it feels light around and starts charging.solar energy is the best way to go. I thought shipping was expensive tough, that is the only reason why I would always tried to buy it in a store.

Solar Flashlight backup explained
This flashlight is very useful: light weight, concentrated, bright beam, and always ready if you leave it in a place where it can get light. However, there is some misunderstanding about the battery backup. It is what it says: a backup if the solar-charged battery is weak. The flashlight has two CR2032 lithium button-cell batteries for backup. They are not charged by solar, but have a long shelf life (several years), so they should be used only in emergencies. These batteries are cheapest in quantity, so it is a good idea to order a supply and have them on hand.I don't know if the the solar-charged cell will last 10 hours as claimed, as I have not used it for more than 15 minutes at a time. so awesome I bought 3
I am so sick of always dead flashlights with expensive batteries. These are great little lights. Obviously you aren't going to be spelunking with these but they are bright enough to walk around with. Even if you leave them in a drawer they seem to get enough juice. I got several and stuck one in my truck and by each back door.I do wish it had a seperate button for switching from solar to the battery mode because when you cycle through it's easy to not pay attention to which mode you are in.
