How to Draw Exotic Flowers: in simple steps Paperback – January 1, 2012

I purchased this book with the express wish to learn how to draw the bird of paradise flower. While this book included that flower there really are no directions in this book. I didn't like this book very well because the pictures they used were in large steps. They didn't really show you or describe to you what you needed to do, it boiled down to copy this. And this is not what I wanted to do, simply copy another artists work. I wanted to learn about the shapes that made up the petals and stems and other parts of the flowers. You get what you pay for. This book was on the lower end price wise and was also quite thin. I realize people learn differently, but this book made it so that YOU, a novice a flower drawing, had to look for the critical things such as shapes. As far as color, this book does show the end result in color but this book does not go into adding color to you drawing nor does it help you make the flower look real as the basic outline is what is pretty much represented. After my experience with this book, I likely will not purchase another in this series. I can't recommend this book. There are far too many other choices to settle for this one. I intend to look a lot closer next time to find what I know will help me to learn.

This is a very simple, straightforward book- no written instructions, no information on technique- just eight "step out" drawings for each of the twenty-eight flowers in the book. One flower is broken down to eight steps per page, and there are 32 flowers (32 pages) in all. I included a slideshow so you could see what I meant.This is good for those looking to learn how to draw flowers by simply sketching shapes, but not so good for those looking for instruction on drawing, including shading, perspective, etc.It's perfect for me, since I'm interested in doing botanical watercolors, and needed a starting point for sketching the flowers I'd like to paint.Thin book, great content. Recommended.

Perfect book for drawing flowers for a beginner. Can't wait to get started.

My 19 year old Grandson likes to draw so I bought this book. He says it was worth the price and enjoys learning the techniques in the book.

No words lost here. Just thirty-two step-by-step illustrations from the first petal to the complete color illustration! Beautiful and made so easy for you. On the backside of the very first page is the list of illustrations with the common name and scientific name for each flower.Perfect!
