Good kit, expect to sharpen on arrival.
Excellent kit for the $. Needs sharpening though, which I expected when I bought it.I started with 400 grit sandpaper on glass to clear the factory applied lacquered layer off of the working surfaces. I moved on to a 1000 grit water stone, then up to 8000 grit. I'll strop it later for the final polish on the edge.Pictures show milling marks at the half done point - I kept going until they were gone.Cleaned them up with WD-40 to remove moisture, then will wipe them down with 3-in1 oil to prevent rust.Seems like a good kit. I'll update later, if needed, once they see wood time and I know better how they cut and keep an edge. Right now the sharp one will shave hair off my arm, and the steel seems quality, so I'm not expecting issues.Update: Chisels went through about 20 dovetails on 3/4” thick oak without issue. Could have done more before touch up sharpening would have been needed. I'm happy.

Great value
I bought these chisels in 2013. I wanted to use them awhile before writing a review, and I think ten years is enough time. Back then, they came in a leather tool roll, nice touch if your on the go, but mine mostly stayed in my shop. They took a considerable amout of time to tune up, as the backs weren't flat, but that is expected from this price range. I'm convinced this is the same steel used in the Stanley Sweethearts and it's quite good. These tools have served me well over the years, and while I've acquired many other chisels, including a set of Veritas PMV 11, these Stanley's are still my go to chisel for many tasks. Yes, the Veritas are finer chisels in every respect, but they are reserved for delicate paring or dovetails. The Stanley's do all of the grunt work and they do it admirably. Assuming they are still making them the way they did then, for the money, these things are a steel. (Sorry for the bad pun).

Very nice intermediate level chisel set.
I purchased these chisels for my son who is getting into woodworking. These chisels came in very sharp and are extremely attractive chisels that are very sturdy and will be in his shop for many years to come. While not the "Cadillac" of chisels they will certainly do the job for most woodworkers.

Chisels are all in all good. Straight [enough]
Chisels are all in all good. Straight [enough], effective [enough] and sharp [enough] out of the box.Handles strong and on well. Pouch well made. That said: The machining marks on the back of the blades are fairly deep (for machine marks). Worst on the 1" chisel. Machine marks on the blades are visible but not as bad as the backs. Took me about 2 hours to clean up back and sharpen chisel. I used a pane of glass and some wet/dry sand paper. Went up using 120 grit, 240 grit, 400 grit and 800 grit. Could have happily stopped here but I also went through 1200 and 2000 grit wet dry.I would have done the same no matter what chisels I bought so I cant mark down for me being picky. Good product.

Amazing chisels... Couple issues
These come with a leather wrap from which I immediately cut off a 3" wide piece to use as a strop. What a deal! The steel is superb. Your honed edge will last a very long time and sharpens rather easily. I've used these every day for about 2 months since I received them. What I'm not a fan of are the handles. They're just too big, even for a guy with big hands. And while they do have flats on two sides (to prevent rolling), the steel is heavier so they can still roll around, often on the edge. But that's a personal preference thing.. For the money, these are fantastic chisels that will serve you well for a lifetime. They are my go-to chisels forsure. Just avoid beating on them with metal Hammers. The lacquer will shoot off like bullets.Enjoy!

Great set, High Value, Sheffield Steel
These are great chisels for the money for sure. I also own a stanley sweetheart chisel and these came just as sharp and I really don't see the difference in quality and why the sweethearts cost so much more. These also have more of an angle than my sweetheart. I'm assuming the sweetheart is 25 and these are 30 degrees, but I haven't measured them, I just compared them and noticed it by looking. These are rather large chisels in my opinion due to the handle length, but it's really not an issue and maybe a benefit for some, I personally would like a slightly shorter handle. Some have said these needed some honing and work done to them to get them right before they used them but I personally found them very sharp (razor) and they cut the wood perfectly right out the box (though you may want to remove the lacquer). I highly recommend them.My only complaint is amazon shipping. 1 star for amazon shipping. This seems to be amazons weak point because I've read so many reviews on so many different tools and I come across people complaining about amazons shipping standards a lot. I have ordered these, and also a bosch orbital sander recently from amazon and both things came packaged horribly. This has caused me to seek my products elsewhere and just use amazon for research purposes. These came shipped in a box with hardly no extra packaging paper and therefore all my chisels were loose in the box. Thankfully the tip protectors stayed on all the chisels and there was no damage to any of them. But this is just plain unacceptable and bad business.

buen producto no excepcional
