Let me tell you that this radio is great. The build is sturdy, it is visually appealing, the controls easy to manipulate and it is neither small nor large, just the right size to fit in my hand. Be forewarned though: although this radio can be used right out of the box, its frequencies by default are not the license-free FRS frequency. The default frequencies that were programmed in this radio are for licensed radio or HAM operators. If you are a casual or ordinary user like me who will only use this on a daily non-commercial, non-business or non-professional basis, then you must program this on the FRS frequencies. To do that you must have: #1 a programming cable and #2 programming software. I am using a non-Socotran cable, it is a Baofeng cable which can be bought here on amazon or ebay for less than 10 bucks. Note on the programming software: YOU MUST ASK this from the seller and specify the one with English language. There is a universal programming software called CHIRP which can be downloaded online for free but CHIRP does not support this radio. It won't even recognize or read the radio. The software MUST come from the seller. There are no ifs and buts about this if you want to program this radio to the license-free FRS frequencies. I mentioned I almost returned this because I emailed the seller asking for the English language programming software. They replied in a few days. On the day that I finally decide to return this, that is when I got the email from the seller providing me with the software. Installed the software on my computer, hooked up the radio to the cable and hooked it up on my pc and there it goes...it read the radio! Got a list of the FRS frequencies online and now I can input the FRS frequencies and transmit/receive legally without a license.You can forget about getting any kind of useful programming information from the instruction manual. The manual is terrible! But if you know what you are doing, you can just toss out the manual and do it yourself.The range for this are adequate. I tested this in a convoy of another car and in an urban environment with a lot of obstruction, I'd say you'll get a clear reception of close to a mile. In an open range, line of sight, I got more than 2 miles. Any further and the range falters. For the price, this radio seems worth it. It even has a little LED flashlight. This is just right for what I need it for. And for that, I give this radio 5 stars.

Look, I don't know how to operate a Ham radio. The instructions for these radios are worthless. They make no sense whatsoever. They are obviously written by someone that cut and pasted the Chinese instructions into a online translator for English. The instructions suck! There's no other way to say it. BUT, if you don't need instructions these radios at this price "seem" an excellent buy. The radios are very sturdy and visually appealing. They "seem" to be easy to use "if" you know what you're doing - which I obviously did not. I wish the seller good luck in fixing this otherwise simple problem.

I like the fact every time you turn the walkie on, it shows what channel you are on. Each walkie has a flashlight. I have only charged them once and used a few times, still fully charged. Overall, compact & lightweight. Just ordered another set for the job site (home remodel/tree removal/full property maintenance jobs).
