Works well for removing varnish. Outdoor use only
Works very well for outdoor use. The other reviews about the smell are absolutely spot on. I would also note that it isn't a harsh chemical, but you should absolutely wear a mask and protect your eyes. The dust is super fine and no more or less than using a sander. I'm refinishing a dresser, and wasn't sure that it would do what a decent sander would do. It worked great without a ton of pressure, but it will take time. I ended up using my garage sweeping up the majority and then using a leaf blower for the really fine stuff I couldn't get up with a sweeper. I would never recommend putting that much dust into air that you and loved ones would be breathing indoors. Pretty satisfied with the results so far from using this.

Worse than worthless. DO NOT BUY!
I may come back for addition comments later, when I try these blocks for grooves and patterns, but on first use on a flat surface, I found them to be messy, laborious, and generally ineffective. I stripped a small portion of a cabinet (about 3x12") and it took much too long. Even after about 15 minutes of vigorous rubbing, paint remnants remained on the surface, and the "dust" the manufacture mentions is ubiquitous. Once about 1/2-3/4 of the block is worn away, the remaining piece tends to crumble into tiny chunks. If I tried to use these on an entire side of the cabinet, it would probably take over an hour vs. 5-10 minutes with coarse sandpaper. If you have a small, irregular object to strip, these blocks may be useful, but for large surfaces, they are worse than worthless.UPDATE: This is without a doubt the WORST woodworking product I have purchased. Despite some positive reviews (probably written by company employees and their families). DO NOT USE on fine woodworking projects--it leaves an awful black residue you'll have sand off anyway. Am returning as defective--it is total crap.

Very good product
This product does exactly what it says its going to do. Other reviews note smell and dust, all true. You should use it outdoors and plan accordingly. Yes it disintegrates but it works really well. Chemical stripper is messy, smells order and causes a good deal more waste. Based on the cost of chemical stripper I'd say it's a little over priced. I'd buy them again.

Not Strong Enough for Corners, Gets Everywhere, But Generally Works as Described
I would not buy these again. For less money I could have gotten something that lasted longer and did the same job. The bars did work really well for the most part, I give them that. Just totally not worth the money for the pain in the butt they were to use, and I could not get into corners as described. The bars were too soft and disintegrated. I'll have to get sand paper anyway. I would warn anyone who uses these to wear eye protection and head protection especially if working outside. This stuff sucks to get in your eyes and hair.

Works Well but Stinks to High Heaven
I purchased these to strip black peeling paint off of a cabinet. Yes, these smell like rotten eggs and the process leaves a fine black dust in the work area, but they do the job well. I mitigated the dust by having a vacuum on hand and vacuumed up repeatedly throughout the process. These take quite a bit of elbow grease to use, so there definitely is effort involved (although no different than sanding items by hand). This did a tremendous job of removing the peeling paint. I believe I used 3-4 blocks to strip the inside of a 68" width bathroom vanity (inside only.) I will be using the remaining blocks for other refinishing jobs around the house, as they will come in very handy. I would definitely recommend these if you are not comfortable or interested in using chemical deglossers or strippers.

Would only use outdoors
Low rating due to cleanliness of the package. The black gritty material these blocks are made of created a mess on my carpet before opening the package. As advertised, I’m sure these blocks are great for grills or anything outdoors, but outdoors only. I sand wood for a living so not confident they would be best for that purpose. When used, they crumble into a pile of black dust and also smell like sulfer. The blocks are very porous. It is very different from the erasing block I was expecting to receive so I was a bit disappointed. Despite the fact, I still attempted to try it so this review is just my opinion based on personal experience.

Not worth the money
Definitly DO NOT use inside. Luckily I was stripping doors. I had already stripped them and bought these for the little grooves I wasn't having a lot of luck getting paint out of. Made a HUGE mess and did very little. Took 2 blocks for one side of the door and still didnt get all the paint off. Very disappointing. You'd have better luck with actual sandpaper which is way cheaper.
