Bump up a size or two!
I ordered a size Large for my son who wears 10/12 and is a pretty thin kid. It was a little more snug than I thought it would be. My advice would be to order a size or two larger than what your child is currently wearing.

Perfect for ugly sweater
Got this for my son's ugly sweater day at school. He loves Home Alone so this sweater was perfect. It isn't like a regular sweater; its more like a sweatshirt which worked even better for my son as normal sweaters are itchy to him. It fit as expected.
