Exactly what the birds needed for the winter!
Because I live in a high-wind area, I was nervous about purchasing this lightweight heated bird bath; after all, we chain our grill to our deck railing because a few years ago our old propane grill was blown all the way across the deck, down the stairs, and into the driveway. However, I didn't want to leave the birds without water when I brought my fountain in for the winter. I was relieved -- and completely sold on this bath -- when it recently weathered a day with winds gusting to 65 mph without moving an inch. Even better, the water inside the bath has not frozen once, not even around the edges. The bowl is a fairly light-weight, textured plastic that allows birds to grip the sides (and even the bottom) without slipping. The stand is metal, and not very heavy, either, although it seems sturdy enough. The water is never warm, only above freezing, so the birds drink from it readily. (I placed it in the same spot as the fountain, and birds were drinking from it within the hour.) I have scattered a few stones on the bottom to give birds a feel for how deep the water is and for them to land on; they use both the edges and the rocks. The bowl won't tip out of the stand -- and this is both good and bad: an animal drinking out of it is unlikely to tip it over, but it also makes it difficult to empty dirty water. Because of the dry winter air and the heat, the water tends to evaporate more quickly than I expected. But even when I forget to fill it with water, the birds use it. I'm going to share a photo in the customer image section of two mourning doves in the empty bath, warming their feet and bottoms on a day with wind chills in the teens. I guess the surface is just warm enough to feel good. While this isn't the most attractive bird bath, it does its job, and the birds love it. What more could I ask?-- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

Birdbath is the best ever!!! Stand - terrible
I gave this a five because this birdbath is so superior. It is big, has a great surface so feet don't slip. The heating feature is amazing. The water never feels heated...just doesn't freeze. Every bird, squirrel, and creature of the forest comes to drink and (with raccoons and porcupines), sit in this birdbath. They have all clearly really appreciated access to water all winter. The stand was made wrong and could not be put together. Amazon refunded me immediately. I went and bought another stand (link attached) and it works perfectly!!! Even with big animals climbing in and out, the birdbath never slips at all. Excellent!!!! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VTZT1C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can’t tighten the legs enough to keep them from falling out
I loved the big bath, but the legs were terrible and they wouldn’t stay together. They kept falling out and I spent a couple of hours trying to figure out how to make it better and I couldn’t. I sent it back.

Excellent heated birdbath, assembly difficult
This heated birdbath functionally meets all of my expectations.. The birds have now found it and use it regularly with no apparent issues supporting its design. The heating feature got a test last night when the temperature dropped to +9 degrees. This morning a good portion of the water was not frozen allowing the birds access. My backyard is often exposed to high winds, particularly during the winter months which could blow the bowl off of its stand. I have identified two types of clamps that should keep the bowl attached to the ring of the stand. The only downside to this device was the assembly. Two 8-32 machine bolts are provided that fasten the three legs together through tapped openings. The problem was that these bolts seized when only about a third of their length and did not allow the heads to firmly seat and hold the legs together. This would cause the legs to come apart and not support the bowl. I solved the problem by installing lock nuts on the protruding portions of the bolts and tightening them so that both the head and the nut of each bolt was securely hold the legs in place. I would recommend this design feature be re-examined and improved.

Keeps water ice-free in sub-zero temps!
We've been using this heated birdbath for a couple of months now and have had zero issues with it. Works exactly as described and so far it's surviving winter better than expected. We've had snow on the ground and freezing temps for a couple of months now, and more recently we've had blizzards and sub-zero temps for about a week now (and we're not even in February yet, so it's going to get worse) and so far this birdbath is working as advertised. Assembly was easy, it's plenty sturdy, we've yet to see any ice in the bowl itself, and the birds simply love it. Fun watching the little guys hanging out in the backyard hot springs in January!

Good size, low maintenance heated bird bath
I am very pleased with this purchase. I was looking for a good sized bowl with a gentle edge slope for safe use by small birds. I like the fact that the bowl just sits in the ring of the stand so it can easily be tilted to empty and clean. It holds enough water that unless a flock is actually bathing it will not go dry too rapidly. It only heats the water enough to keep it from freezing. The base comes with three u-shaped pins that hold the legs in place on your lawn or in a planter. The base is a little tricky to assemble but not as bad as many criticisms describe if you are careful to note that the three legs need to slip into small tabs and then be held there while tightening the screw in the steel clamp that holds them in place. The steel ring that the bowl sits into might take two people to bend to seat the perimeter pegs into the proper holes of each leg. Once inserted though, that tension is what holds the ring tightly in place. The short plug hangs just below the bowl so the connection is off the ground and somewhat protected from weather. I have had it in operation for a couple months and very satisfied.

Built for the Coldest Winters
Very nice to see this kind of performance in frosty conditions. With the bowl full, the water temperature varies from 58°F (14°C) above the heating element to 55°F (13°C) around the edges at an air temperature of -4°F (-20°C). The air temperature in the photo is higher because the sensor is above the warm water. The unit is easy to assemble with only a Philips-head screwdriver required to tighten the clamp around the legs. The bowl is plastic, which means no breaks or cracks even with the clumsiest of birders 🙂

That it doesn't overheat the waster.
I plugged it in and filled it with water and then came back it a couple of hours to see if it was working. because of the temperature that day I couldn't really tell if there was a change in the temperature. It got really cold and froze the water in the puddles overnight but when I checked the bird bath it was still the temperature that it had been the day before. Cool to the touch, but not frozen. There was a ring of ice around the edge where the snow had landed but the water was perfect for the birds, and they are there every day now. Great product. The only thing is, that I would liked to have had a water proof connecting cord to go with the bird bath instead of having to purchase one seperately.

Good but get a different stand
Overall the heater is good, been -15c for a few days and it’s kept the water clear of ice.Only complaint is the stand. It’s difficult to assemble and once it’s assembled needs encouragement to align with ring holes that the bowl sits in. Design flaw. Once it’s finally assembled everything is as it should be.

NICE BIRD BATH BUT....
I like that the bird bath is large and heated. I also received it very fast.I saw in the reviews that many others thought the bird bath was hard to assemble. I had no problem putting it together, but it seemed the tabs inside the bracket were too small to secure the arms and legs. After getting the arms and legs on and the screws tightened as soon as I moved the unit the arms and legs fell off.I contacted the seller who sent me a new bracket and now the bird bath is assembled and I am sure it will be nice for the birds in the winter.

Wonderful!
Got this 1 1/2 years ago from my husband for Christmas. Birds come every day - has been a great source of entertainment for both my husband and I, and our 2 cats. Power is very reliable. Lightweight, easy to clean.
