Really Nice Heater.
Sun Cloud, Solar Comfort, KD 8,000. This arrived in 2 boxes; 1 was the heater, the other was the cabinet. The cabinet required assembly, which was easy to do with 1 gigantic phillips screwdriver for the built-in latches, and was pretty much self-explanatory. The cabinet it's self is made of good quality ply-wood with a real oak veneer, and is very nice looking. It also comes with small plastic casters, which are good enough quality considering how light-weight the heater is. They have to be attached with the provided small phillips screws, which was also self-explanatory and easy to do. The heater mechanism it's self is made of steel, and is powder-coated, and seemed to be of over-all good quality. 4 screws need to be removed to take off the top, to instal the included light-bulbs. This was very easy to do in about a minute, requiring only a small phillips screwdriver. The electrical on/off switch is of very high quality, as is the cord and plug-in. It has a air-filter on the back thet is very easy to access, change, and clean. The outer cabinet remains cool to the touch, while the heater inside puts out enough BTUs to heat my studio apartment with ease. If you want to heat a 1-bedroom apartment with the bedroom and bathroom doors open, it might have to crank full-time, but for my application I am very pleased with it; it cycles on and off as needed, and has a good-quality thermostat. My only complaint is thet the phillips-head latches thet are built into the cabinet for easy assembly had such enormous phillips heads thet I was not able to find a screwdriver that gigantic, thus the biggest 1 I had slipped in it's slot a bit while I was assembling it; it would be nice if these slots were of a size thet could accommodate a screwdriver the average person might have access to. This was no big deal, and the only complaint I can come up with. Otherwise it was very easy to assemble. I am very pleased with this unit over-all, and have already recommended it to a friend. - Shannon.

grossley over priced
I have used many small electric heaters and they all put out the same heat. Heat rises. Period. It does not heat the entire room from floor to ceiling and puts out no more heat than my $45.00 milk house heater that has been in service for 20 years. if you dont sit directly in front of it, you are going to be cold. This has to be one of the all time great marketing scams. I want my money back. Looks are not everything.

WIth patience, heats well
I have a split level house where the family room is on the garage level. It seems the heat always escapes upstairs, leaving the family room cool. I have those radiator style electric heaters in bedrooms, and love them, but my step-mom swears by this and bought me one last year. I was skeptical of the electric bill and as others with low reviews mentioned, it took a while to heat the room (as the radiator style do). This winter, we were going to have guest in the house, so I bit the bullet to try the heater on for an extended period of time. I was surprised that it not only heated up the room after about 30-45 minutes, but I had to turn the thermostat down because it started to get hot. I have since used it enough to realize that it is going to take a little bit of time to heat up the room after it is turned on, but that it eventually does and is quite comfortable. Our electric company has usage by day on their web page, so I was able to look at the days that it was used, and it was not a noticeable jump in my electric cost for those days. Now, we don't use the room often in the winter as the fireplace is in the living room, but I will buy another for my finished basement. My first couple of winters in this house, those rooms remained unused without lots of blankets. I would buy another.Another point worth noting: it blew the breaker quite a bit after it had been on for a while. I read the instructions and saw it said to put it on its own circuit, but I didn't have time to run one the first time I used it. To get around the breaker issue, I had to run a heavy duty extension cord from another room. So, if you don't have a dedicated 15 amp circuit, hope you have a 20 amp circuit, or you may find yourself in the dark if the breaker pops. I put in a dedicated circuit, and have never had another issue. Since its on the garage wall, I put one outlet in the garage and one in the family room on the same circuit just to get a little more functionality out of the circuit. I figured that if its warm enough for me to be working in the garage, I'm not going to have the heater running.I rated it 4 only because it is a little slow to heat and someone without the ability to wire a circuit may find an additional electrician cost if they don't have a 20 amp outlet. But it does function as advertised and the circuit issue is in the instructions.

Ok Heater
This particular infrared heater is a pretty solidly built unit. Definitely seems higher quality than all the other infrared heaters on the market.I use it in my small basement and it does ok in keeping it fairly warm. Unfortunately, the thermostat is more like an on off dial as opposed to a real thermostat that cycles the heater on/off. The unit will either be on all the time or off all the time. But I've never had a portable heater from any brand that had a working thermostat.Now...is the Solar Comfort worth $500? I would say no. It does not heat any better than your avg portable heater from Lowes, Home Depot, Target, etc. And, those units only cost around $100. Although all the previous cheapo units I've bought only lasted 3-4years...for $500...you could buy 5 cheapo units for the price of 1 Solar Comfort.

This heated most of our house this winter. Granted ...
This heated most of our house this winter. Granted we have a smaller house (1,200 sq ft) but it saved us a lot of money on propane last winter.

Suncloud Heater
We've had ours about 4 years now. Have had to replace the bulbs twice. The dealer where we bought it charges $20.00 plus for a replacement bulb. You can find them on the internet for $5.97ea. plus shipping. Anyway, we have a large living room, so we have to run 2 heaters. The Suncloud is totally over-priced and over-hyped. We bought another brand off the internet for $149.00 which works just as good if not better. In a small room it may work just fine, but it sure doesn't in a larger room. No, I would NEVER purchase one again at that price. Acually, I would never buy a Suncloud again.
