Love it
Absolutely love it. A very good translation compared to others I've read. I'd recommend this to anyone that likes books with a more out there premise.

The Best Translation of the Novel
This Russian book has been translated into English several times. This (Karlpenson's) translation is the best. It's beyond me why it's out of print while other (inferior) translations are constantly reprinted.

Suspend your notion of reality...
as you enter this world created by Mikahil Bulgakov. Set in Moscow in 1929, a complex story unfolds by a master of detail. The unforgettable characters are painted on a canvas enveloped by an oppressive political regime. Not an easy or casual read, it is worth the effort to enjoy the work of this literary genius. If you love Lewis Carroll, you will love this.

A classic
This is a very funny book that smacks of magical realism of the South American style. IT has many layers. Some authorities think it is one of the best books to have come out of the Soviet era (the author was a personal friend of Stalin who protected him) but I found that parts of the book, such as the Walpurgis night party, went on much too long

Terrible translation
A wonderful masterpiece of literature translated abysmally. The notes in this translation are helpful, but much of the humour and nuance is lost in the prose. Do your self a favour and read another translation.

One of the finest of Russian Literature
This is really fun-a look at what goes on behind closed doors. Like Twilight, only 50 years earlier.Moscow, a city of deprivation and corruption. Like any city really. People going about their small-minded business, a bit of bribery here, a concession granted thereBut something more is going on. Margarita is fed up with life but gets an interesting proposition from a vey feline person. Pretty soon she finds that dies queen of a coven of witches, enjoying all of the "good"things in life. The story is exactly what it seems-that there's a hidden life behind every closed door. It's a fun fantasy. It's also a political satire, and a prophesy of how things could be.

The Master and Margarita
It's style is well constructed. The characters and story line to be believed.Because some are representative of well known Russians alive at the time. Suspense builds on three or four occasions during the course of the tale. Indidvidual episodes both gone into with acute background detail and well depicted.Another facet is ,it's a story within a story. Dont expect this to be concluded with the right side or what are conceived too be the right people winning. That's perhaps the only deflating end result. Yes there's no redemption here.Bulgakov was an accomplished author,we all know that. Wether he has "cult status" is a matter for the individual reader to decide.

great satire
Great satire with some hilarious scenes, ironic and sarcastic dark humor. The Russian names never are easy to remember and to distinct from each other but with some attention it's no problem to follow the characters. Really worth a read

Master and Margarita paperback
This edition seems true to the original story with good interpretation.Love this story and it's place in Russian history and Mikhail Bulgakov's struggle to maintain his writing and keep out of prison.First time I read this story I thought it terribly sad and the 2nd time I thought it was hilariously funny so see how this 3rd book feels.
