SpeedballMona Lisa Adhesive Pen for Metal Leaf Kit w/Silver Simple Leaf

I haven't had a chance to try this adhesive pen and leaf set, but as with most Speedball products, I expect it to be first rate.

I don't think that the instructions on this are correct - the adhesive that comes in a jar says to leave it for 20 -30 minutes. This pen says 5 minutes, and it just doesn't work. But if you leave it longer it works. You just have to leave it longer than the directions say.

The tip is rough and flow control is awful resulting in puddling. It warped the paper I was working on. I imagine it may work better on hard surfaces.

Product is very messy you can’t control the amount it lets out

Pen doesn't like to apply enough glue, so product can't grab enough to stick. Seems to get better the more the pen is worn in.

I really wanted this to be a great product. I do a lot of drawing with gold leaf and up until now I used a brush or pen nib to apply the adhesive. I was hoping this would be a great additional applicator but I found that it didn't apply nearly enough adhesive to even get the gold leaf to stick. I have to admit that I use high quality drawing paper that will soak up some of the adhesive, so this may work on a glossy surface. The pen is also a pump action so you have to take numerous pauses to refill the tip with adhesive and don't expect to draw or write in a continuous fluid line. I had to give it a try and at least it was inexpensive and there were some small sheets of leaf that I can use so it's not a total loss.

This little glue pen is amazing. It works perfectly for gold leafing.
