fantastically transparent insights into classic movie techniques
massively recommend - some of the things you learn in this are amazing in that despite being told exactly how Hitch manipulated you, your viewpoint, your feelings (terror etc), the tricks still work - genius (also Truffaut's expertise really helps unravel things so well) - a great read.

A delight from start to finish
This is the fully revised version, in a large format which better serves the illustrations. I bought this to replace my battered old copy, bought second-hand, of the original version. This is one of the most thorough reviews of a director's work ever produced, thanks to Truffaut's idolising Hitchcock. As well as a full account of Hitchcock's life, and his films, we get to read quite a lot of Truffaut's beliefs, and are encouraged to see for ourselves the influence of one director on the other. If you have read Truffaut's own account of his life - well worth the read - you will know just how strong Hitchcock's influence was. Even so, Truffaut is critical at times, and this is not just extended hero-worship. One of the best books on cinema ever produced. All real lovers of cinema should read this.

Top quality book and in fantastic condition!!!
Bought this for my step-son who is studying film at university. He's very happy to have his own copy and no longer has to borrow it from the library. A must have for film buffs and students interested in the art of thrillers and suspense. It was described as good condition when I'd say it was more "like new". Very impressed indeed.

A Real Insight into the Man & His Movies
It's all been said by many before me, but this is a masterpiece for anyone who is really interested in the works of Hitchcock & really wants to understand his thought process. Hitchcock's observations are intelligent, insightful & laced with his dry wit. Trauffaut made this happen by his obvious enthusiasm and minute knowledge of Hitchcock's movies & the rapport of the two men, who obviously liked each other. One can now understand why so many enjoyed these long conversations on set where Hitchcock described every shot; he's not boring, he's fascinating!

Classic
The classic book on Hitchcock. Every film covered with Hitchcock's own views on the plot/actors. Wonderful insight, for instance on who chooses the actors (not Hitchcock necessarily) and the problems this causes. The interview (Francois Truffaut) is obviously very knowledgeable, and a great director in his own right. The must have Hitchcock book in my opinion... shame there's not a big hardback reprint.

A joy to own...
Five stars, i.e. "I love it!" Well, of course I do. I remember it well as a library book that I so didn't want to return (but did) back in the 1960s. Two of the greatest exponents of cinema, exchanging opinions, jokes and such-and-such. A truly wonderful book. Thank you, friends at Wordery!
