Im not sure why this has many negative reviews. It works perfect for us. Its is AWESOME and an extremely helpful tool! We use it on our child's computer....it is attached to the computer monitor power plug. Yes the beeping is VERY loud....but I dont understand why this bothers many of the adults who reviewed it....its the kid that is right next to the thing when it beeps....not the parent. I think the loud beeping is actually a very positive feature ....it makes it uncomfortable for the child to be next to it so it helps train them to turn their devise (their computer or TV) off their selves. If they want the loud beeping to stop....well they can shut the timer off to make it stop, so they need to save their game or pause their TV show, then shut the timer off. It beeps loudly for about 30 seconds at 5 minutes remaining...this gives them more then enough time to save their games or pause movies or shows. Then it beeps for the last 1 minute before it shuts off....cutting the power to the connected device. So far it works as the description states. I have it set for 1 hour a day....and I do not need to reset it everyday as another reviewer stated...maybe they didn't read the directions. Note that if you want to set a daily amount of time, the time of day you initially set it at...is the time it will restart for the "next day". So if you initially set it at 1pm...its going to reset for the next 24 hour cycle at 1pm...so if you want to ensure your kid can get on at any time of the day you should set it very late at night or very early in the morning. I could see how the lock could easily be broken or rigged open by an older kid. But I have warned my kid that if he trys to get the timer off in any way.... he will loose his computer for a week...if he breaks the timer....well his computer will be gone for a month or longer!! I will straight up take his computer out of the house. So he has not tried to get it off at all! A review stated that it just stopped working....I have my fingers crossed that it continues to work properly!!

The concept is good, it's inexpensive and easy to use and it works, sort of. My 15 year old quickly figured out how easy it is to remove the "locked" cover without the key and keep on playing without even breaking it. It is now useless to me since it was meant to limit his use when I'm not home. This is best suited for younger children.

I am unhappy with this item. Before it shuts off, it makes a terrible chirping noise. If you are asleep it will wake you up for sure. They should not have put the terrible noise into it. We do not use it for this reason.

Has really helped my 10 year old learn to manage his game time. Loud beep in the last 5 mins is annoying, hate having to reset daily but im getting him away from the console more. Worth it!!

I bought this unit and 2 other Game Timers. This was 2nd overall, as far as features and quality, but the unit has several fatal flaws for our uses. These were definite deal breakers for our family! (1) If you own a Sony Playstation 3, most game timers shut off the power completely when the child's time is used up. The Playstation 3 requires the electrical outlet to always be on, if not the memory and time settings are lost and have to be reentered each time you use the device (a Pain in the neck)! (2) the unit is not to be used with a Plasma TVs of which we have (2) another deal breaker! By the way the unit the whole family liked the most and even Mom can program easily was the  BOB - Screen Time Manager - Manage Your TV Time . This was the most expensive unit but also the most sophisticated by a mile! It is built well and is easy to use and works well with th Playstation3 and all TVs and computers. It shuts down the kids use, but still allows a small amount of power to pass through the device and to keep your PS3 memory alive. If you have an older game console like the Sony Playstation 2 or the Gamecube this unit would be fine!

As far as the unit, it works good. it is what i needed. all though had a hard time getting everything i needed. keys did not com with it and they sent the wrong keys when they sent the right keys 3 weeks have passed and they should of next day them too me but oh well a month later i get to use it.

Works for intended purpose... but, there is an extremely obnoxious (and very loud) alarm that begins to sound with 5 minutes remaining and sounds for the full 5 minutes if you don't turn the TV off.I wouldn't buy it again and would much rather spend more for a higher quality version with more customization for viewing time limits and WITHOUT that obnoxious alarm.

While the concept of this product is good, there is an INCREDIBLY annoying beep on this that warns you at 5 minutes -- and there is no way to turn it off. Every time, it scares the whole family and is louder than a fire alarm and it beeps once every 2 or 3 seconds for 7 beeps. It's awful and terribly disruptive. My husband or I would come running into the room whenever we heard it because we kept thinking there was a fire. I'd recommend you buy another product without the beeper.
